After the brutal ending of the last audiobook in the Max Abaddon series, I was anxious to begin Max Abaddon and The Gates To Perdition by Justin Leslie. Narrated by Luke Daniels, Leslie did not disappoint with another addictive, funny, action-packed adventure.

MAX ABADDON AND THE GATES TO PERDITION: BOOK 7 OF THE MAX ABADDON SERIES
Max Abaddon was finally about to enjoy an extraordinary, unordinary life until fate had other plans for him. After beating the Soul Dealers, coming face to face with the Knights of the Old Gods, dealing with a rude unicorn, and taking on the Scarlet Vampire Court, Max and his crew of eccentric companions thought things were calming down.
Now faced with a little problem that landed him in a relatively hotter climate, Max must find out why his great-grandfather Devin, better known as the devil, has gone missing. With the scales of power in the Under at stake, Max must decide whether or not to embrace the dark side of his family. Even worse, answering the question of his own mortality.
With the help of a few familiar faces and a new, rather grumpy demon raccoon, Max must figure out a way through hell to find and save Devin, dead or alive.
Back home, things are also coming to a head with Max being out of the picture, as it’s time to explain a few things to the council…
Max finds himself with a change of view and away from his motley crew after the events of Max Abaddon and the Last Bite. He’s in the Under where he meets a demon raccoon and finds out why his great-grandfather Devin, better known as the devil, has gone missing.
The balance of the Under is at stake and the consequence could be deadly for those back home. With the help of some new and old acquaintances, Max must decide whether to take up his power and join the battle. The author delivered a blend of snark, mythology, awesome battles and a little magic. I can tell you that the tale that unfolds once again held me captive.
The story is well paced and while I missed the gang; I was excited when some could join Max in the Under, thanks to an interesting bit of magic. Max is constantly being tested, but his compass always rings true. I gasped aloud when we learned what befell him. In this novel, Max will be tested, as will his friends, and with so much at stake, I couldn’t help but devour the story.
I love how Leslie weaves in myths, the characters’ dealings with the council, and delivers a unique fantasy series that can have me laughing out loud one moment and weeping for a character the next minute. The battle scenes and escape scenes were epic.
Fans of Dresden, will like Max Abaddon. He’s an average guy who came into power on his thirtieth birthday and is learning as he goes. Will he embrace his dark side? Will he survive to see his (not) girlfriend again? You’ll need to listen to find out.
Luke Daniels narrates bringing a full cast of voices for these characters that will make you grin. His narration adds another element to the tale and only enhances my enjoyment of the series.
While we are still in search of answers, the author revealed some truths and set us up for more to come. I for one, cannot wait for the next audiobook in this addictive fantasy series.
