A thrilling tale of love, lies, and lethal magic.
As Charlie and Ellis fight to protect their love and their people, they find themselves entangled in a web of deceit spun by an unlikely foe.
Charlie's future with Ellis hangs in the balance when the Drow elders threaten to wipe his memories.
Would they take his life?
To prove his worth, the detective must solve the murder of a Drow with a mysterious past. But as he delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a sinister plot that could destroy everything he holds dear.
Meanwhile, Ellis faces her own challenges when Claire sends her on a dangerous mission to retrieve vital research from a secret government lab. Trapped and running out of options, Ellis must rely on her wits and her allies to survive.
With time running out and the fate of the Homestead at stake, they must confront their deepest fears and make the ultimate sacrifice. Will Charlie and Ellis unravel the mystery before it's too late? Or will they be torn apart by the very forces they're trying to save?
Like most fantasy, the Chronicles of Shadow Bourne series builds on the previous book. I highly recommend listening to the series in chronological order. Not only for the overall arc, but for the relationships that develop. One thing I enjoy is that each installment contains a mystery of its own while building on the series. We also have a slow-burn romance and things are heating up.
The authors delivered another action-packed tale with twists that kept me slack jawed. Claire, Ellis’s mother, needs information from a government lab to save Conner, her Dad and two others who were infected in a previous installment. Things get tense when Ellis is caught and whisked off to sea. What she discovers there changes everything.
Charlie worries the Drow might wipe his memory and ruin his relationship with Ellis. He takes on the murder investigation of their friend, Rollo. Rollo helped both Ellis and Charlie in a previous installment.
The climax left me itching for the next audiobook, Drow Nightrunner. Stephanie Savannah continues to narrate the series and I enjoy the voices and tone she has set for the series. She captures Ellis’s emotions perfectly.
Rich characters, plot twists, magic and suspenseful mysteries have me recommending this series to fans of light urban fantasy and paranormal stories. At around six hours each, these audios deliver an engaging escape.
