A series of chance encounters leads to a sizzling new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.
The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn't hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava's ever had. And that's all it was--until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.
When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb's orbit, he proposes they enjoy their physical connection while he's stranded in Boston. Ava agrees, knowing her heart's in no danger since a) she barely likes Caleb and b) his existence in her life is temporary. Not long thereafter Ava realizes she's made a terrible error because as it turns out Caleb Scott isn't quite so unlikeable after all. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them. But even if she does decide to risk her heart on Caleb, there is no guarantee her stubborn Scot will want to risk his heart on her....
Join me on my coffee dates with Samantha Young’s newest romantic tale Fight or Flight. A sexy Scot and a sassy designer go head to head as sparks fly in this deliciously wonderful, heartwarming tale. I fell in love with these characters from their snarky terms of endearment to Caleb’s Scottish lilt.
Coffee Dates with Flight or Fight
- First Date: I was excited to begin Fight or Flight. I’ve enjoyed past series by Young and was ready for some fun. I was not disappointed as our first encounter led to snarky barbs that set the stage for a truly wonderful haters to lovers romance. Caleb steals the last first class seat and more at the Phoenix airport but a delay puts them both on a first-class flight to New York with a layover in Chicago….all of which leads to a very satisfying encounter. Ooo la la. Dang, Young can capture the emotions and chemistry of a scene. She added depth and heart while setting my Kindle on fire.
- Second Date: Despite Caleb’s offer for a no-strings liaison, Ava declines and slides back into her blissful (controlled) routine. When a client asks her to help entertain a “friend” stuck in the city, Ava agrees and surprise, surprise it is our sexy Scot. I adored the back and forth banter, sizzling chemistry and snark but Young, as she is want to do, also gave us depth as she slowly revealed why these thirty-somethings were commitment shy. I laughed, cried and simply became caught up in their lives and end-date relationship.
- Third Date: Things take a turn when Caleb finds himself accepting a position within his company based in New York..oh yeah. Growth, secondary characters including Ava’s bestie and Caleb’s brother added interest and provided reveals into our heroes past. I love how vested I became in these characters and darn it, they NEED an HEA, but of course they need to f@ck it up first. They suffer and we all ate ice cream together before Young brought it all home and allowed me to close the book with a smile.
All the feels, swoons and delicious banter make Fight or Flight the perfect romance for a Sunday morning layover.

I think I would’ve liked the audio better that way the written in Scottish accent wouldn’t have been distracting. Always lot hearing a Scot talk! This was a lot of sexy fun, though! Great review, Kimberly! 🙂
Kimberly
Aye, this would have been nice on audio.

I don’t read a lot of strictly romance, but when I find an author I love, it doesn’t matter what they write, I will read it.
Kimberly
I agree. I tend to prefer the romance on the side, but do enjoy them now again.

I definitely loved the banter in this one! Caleb drove me nuts at times, but I did want those two to get their HEA so bad. Great review!
Kimberly

Dagnabbit! I skipped this one because I didn’t think I could squeeze it in after picking a few other new to mes. I’ll have to pick it up.

Sounds like this was great! I have enjoyed this author previously also. I just am being careful about romances as I’m having more trouble with them right now. Anne – Books of My Heart

I do like this author. I will have to add this one to the pile for winter. Those are usually the months when for whatever reason I like romances more. Great review Kim!
Kimberly
This would be a fun read snuggled up by the fire!

Woo! I am so glad to see such a raving review from you. Young is one of my favorites. I adored Ava’s bestie! She and Ava were awesome together.
Kimberly
I love her too!

Talk about NOT having a meet-cute. Those initial airport interactions between Caleb and Ava was quite funny. I really enjoyed this book. I am kind of hoping Caleb’s brother and Ava’s bestie will get companion books, because they certainly have stories to tell, and need their own HEAs.
Kimberly
Yes, I would totally read that!
Ailyn Koay
well this is something new ! usually flying stories involve at least 1 air stewardess
Kimberly
Nope..travelers on and all.
