Narrated by Lauren Ambrose, The Mistletoe Mystery by Nita Prose is the perfect holiday audiobook mystery to listen to this holiday season. This novella is part of the Molly the Maid series and one of my favorites. A little holiday magic, some familiar themes, and Molly’s quirky personality had me devouring this in just one sitting.

Molly the Maid has a whole new mystery to solve this holiday when a Secret Santa gift exchange raises questions about who she can and cannot trust—a heartwarming story about the true spirit of the season, by #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Maid and The Mystery Guest
Molly Gray has always loved the holidays. When Molly was a child, her gran went to great lengths to make the season merry and bright, full of cherished traditions. The first few Christmases without Gran were hard on Molly, but this year, her beloved boyfriend and fellow festive spirit, Juan Manuel, is intent on making the season Molly’s most joyful yet.
But when a Secret Santa gift exchange at the Regency Grand Hotel raises questions about who Molly can and cannot trust, she dives headfirst into solving her most consequential—and personal—mystery yet. Molly has a bad feeling about things, and she starts to wonder: has she yet again mistaken a frog for a prince?
A heartwarming, magical story about the true spirit of the season, The Mistletoe Mystery reminds us that love is the greatest mystery of all.
In The Mistletoe Mystery, it’s holiday season and Molly is experiencing some first. It’s her first Christmas with her boyfriend, Juan Manuel, and this year there is a Secret Santa gift exchange at the Regency Grand Hotel. All of this leads to question about love, trust and more. The tale that unfolds was sweet and time well spent with these characters.
I love Molly, who is on the spectrum and sees things a little differently. She often repeats and lives by things her grandmother told her to help her navigate life where she cannot always trust social cues. Molly suspects Juan Manuel might not be faithful and she begins to doubt herself.
I loved all the nods to favorite holiday stories and as the story drew to a close it all came together perfectly. It was the perfect holiday listen and a great appetizer until the next full-length novel.
Lauren Ambrose narrates the series and has really become the voice of Molly. She beautifully captures Molly’s personality and emotions. I love how she developed unique voices for all the characters, from the grandfatherly figure to the snarky maid. At just under three hours, it’s the perfect listen to wrap holiday gifts with or a road trip to grandmas.
While this is a complete story, I recommend listening to this series in the order of their release. It will give you a better understanding of the characters and relationships. Plus, I love the series and recommend it to fans of mystery and unique, loveable characters.

This looks fun! I need to pick up The Maid again. I tried it right after it came out but couldn’t get into it – it was very much just not the right time so I need to retry it.

Happy to see you give this one a go. I’ve become a huge fan of the series and can’t wait to read the new book next year!

I adore Molly and loved this novella, too! I’m happy that even though Molly had her doubts she never fully gave into them, instead kept her Grandmother’s good advice in her mind and tried to hold out for explanations. Can’t wait until the next one!

Lovely review, Kimberly. I think I’m going to have to use an audible credit for this one. I loved the first two and would love to listen to this one before the end of the year. Wonderful review.
