Don't get too close to humans. That's rule number one. Well, it is if you're an emotionally constipated fae lord. As far as I'm concerned, the vampire could do a better job of keeping his distance, but he's never been that good at following the rules.
G'day. I'm Pet. Schrödinger's Pet, these days; depends who's asking.
I'm human, but when you hang around with enough Behindkind, it starts getting dangerous for the other humans around you. Humans like my friend Morgana. I tried to stay away, but now she needs my help and don't get too close to humans isn't exactly gunna cut it anymore.
I've got the feeling I'm about to find out why it's such a bad idea.
One of my favorite things about this series is the dynamics between Pet and the psychos as they deal with the Behindkind and the mysteries/trouble Pet gets into. The story is told from Pet’s perspective, but each of the characters is complex and fleshed out. Gingell continues to peel back each characters’ layers and while the romantic aspect hasn’t developed beyond thoughts; we are seeing two prospective relationship partners for Pet. We see a deepening relationship with Zero, but we also have the banter with JinYeong our vampire. I waiver between these two ships and am curious to see who Pet ultimately chooses. I should note, I would be just as happy if they are remained roommates and lived happily ever after.
We see development concerning Morgana, and our leprechaun friend, Five-Four-One, is hilarious. (be sure to read the novella, Cloudy With A Chance Of Dropbears). We are seeing a power struggle to control the Behind and a lot of questions and open threads are answered in Between Walls.
Gingell has full control of this series arc and its characters. I for one, am fully enjoying the ride. I absolutely love listening to the audiobooks narrated by Zehra Jane Naqvi. Her voices for these characters and her grasp of the humor, banter, and personalities along with the building story arc making listening an absolute joy. The story is addictive, and she enhances that story.
Because of character development and world-building, I recommend this series be listened to in the order of its release. I also recommend stopping and picking up any novellas in-between as they prove to be not only entertaining but relevant.
I cannot wait to dive into the next audio Between Cases which is currently available on audio. The series is available through Kindle Unlimited and you can grab the audiobooks at a reduced cost.
Between Walls by W.R. Gingell continues the City Between #UrbanFantasy series. Humor, mystery, banter and delightful characters await you. #CityBetween #ZehraJaneNaqvi Share on XStay Caffeinated!
