Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood delivers a story filled with magic and self-discovery. Belladonna Blackthorn loves working at Lunar Bookstore and the magic she possesses, but when her thirtieth birthday arrives, she discovers she might lose it all.

Belladonna Blackthorn hasn’t lost her magical spark . . . but she hasn’t seen it in a while, either.

Balancing work at her beloved Lunar Books with protecting it from her toxic boss, who’s running it into the ground, and all the while concealing her witchcraft from the non-wicches around her – Belle is burnt out. Perfecting the potential of her magic is the last thing on her mind.

But when her 30th birthday brings a summons from her coven, and a trial that tests her worthiness as a witch, Belle risks losing her magic forever. With the month of October to fix things, and signs that dark forces may be working against her, Belle will need all the help she can get – from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure, and even an (infuriatingly handsome) watchman who’s sworn to protect her . . .

With found family, slow burn romance and an uplifting message about self-love, this is the cosy, autumnal read that you've been waiting for.

Rewitched delivered a charming, cozy fantasy and was my first Lucy Jane Wood. We meet Bella as she is approaching her thirtieth birthday, where she must pass the trials or lose her magical abilities. The tale that unfolds brings growth, new friendships, and a love interest.

Wood did a lovely job of explaining the magical world that is living among the non-wicches. I loved the coven, trials, and how everything unfolded to the mystery and suspense that built as it appears someone doesn’t want Bella to complete her trials.

Bella hasn’t allowed her magical skills to grow. The coven decides she has thirty days to master and pass a skills test, or what magic she has will be removed permanently. She is given a mentor- an excommunicated witch from the coven, who loves baking. Rune is assigned as her watchman. This tall, dark, and handsome mage becomes the love interest.

From the pacing to the twists along the way, I enjoyed my time spent with Bella. I loved time spent in the attic with her mentor and seeing Bella grow and become more confident. Secondary characters played a key-role and the stories of her mentor and the Blackthorn witches provided a suspenseful storyline that kept me reading.

If you love cozy fantasy with found family, magic, and romance you’ll find Rewitched to be an inspiring and satisfying read.
