Madison Fox is determined to reform Jamie, her half-evil pooka, but the bond linking her to Jamie works both ways. Already, it has manipulated her into bending the rules. If she continues down this path, she could doom her soul. Since her judgment can't be trusted, a high-ranking inspector now dictates Madison's every interaction with Jamie, and each directive drives them further apart. Unfortunately, Madison has bigger issues than the potential degradation of her soul.
Winter has struck with a vengeance. Frost moths plague the entire state, reinforcing the artificially frigid temperature. Worse, cold-blooded, soul-stealing enemies are flocking into her region from the north-creatures Madison has little defense against.
With the inspector scrutinizing her every misstep, Madison is in for the battle of her life. If she hopes to survive, she must make an impossible choice: Save herself and her region, or save Jamie.
Jamie, the half-evil pooka bonded to Madison, is testing the rules and the two are finding themselves frustrated. Madison wants to respect Jamie and struggles to find a balance between following the rules and caring for him. The two exchange some words before Madison is caught up in a territorial battle that has her promising her boss will host peace treaties…but before she can deal with winter attacking her territory, Jamie goes missing.
Madison and the others must find Jamie before he turns evil. Madison is being monitored and questioned, making her feel like a criminal. Obeying the rules is a genuine struggle for her. Will she have to choose between protecting Jamie and her territory? Should she trust her gut or respect those with more experience?
Chastain built up the tension and tested Madison, forcing her to grow and make decisions that will have lasting consequences. Once again, I liked the balance the author provided between battles, tension and light-hearted banter between characters.
In the romance department, Madison has had a date with Alex, and is trying to deal with her attraction to Niko, another enforcer. It feels like a bit of a love triangle. I am so not a fan of those, but things are early yet and I am hoping she makes a choice soon. If it’s Alex, I hope she opens up about who she is and what she does. He will not believe the unexpected work emergencies bit forever.
Madison is coming into her own and defining who she is as an enforcer. She is also gaining strength with her abilities. She is soft-hearted, willful, courageous and vulnerable, making her feel genuine. We see more development with secondary characters and learn more about them and the world.
The world and creatures Chastain introduced continue to intrigue me. Imagine seeing a creature sucking the life force from other humans as they sit totally unaware. Battles for territories, the different creatures, and good vs. evil offer endless storyline possibilities.
Elise Arsenault has become the voice of these characters and captures Madison’s essence. From pacing to tone, she makes listening a pleasure.
While the current issues come to a close, the author teases us with things to come and I cannot wait for the next audio.
In A Fistful of Frost by Rebecca Chastain, Madison Fox has her hands full as Winter descends upon her territory and her pooka goes missing. #Urban #MadisonFox #Audiobook Share on XStay Caffeinated!

I saved this to comment and it got a bit lost in all my emails. True story! I never got to book 3 but I loved the first two books. One of these days I need to continue on with these. Are there more after this one? I also admit to not remembering Jamie. It’s just been so long since I read it.

These are the only ones on audio but there are more books.

It sounds like this one has plenty to offer in terms of both character development and action. The thought of an invisible force taking my life chills me to my core!

This sounds really good though I need to start with the first book. I like that you can see the character evolve as the book progresses. I love that the same narrator has done all the audio books. I need to find the first book.
Lover of Romance
oh I do adore a character where we see such growth and coming into her own strength and capabilities.
