We are back with Illuminant Enforcer, Madison Cox and it’s second week on the job. It’s Black Friday and an outbreak of evil at the mall leads to more trouble. This urban fantasy series by Rebecca Chastain is a lot of fun. Come check out my thoughts on A Fistful of Fire narrated by Elise Arsenault.

Madison Fox survived her first week as California’s newest illuminant enforcer, but if her grumpy boss, Mr. Pitt, was impressed, he hasn’t told Madison. In fact, there’s a lot her boss has been closemouthed about, including the dark secret haunting his past.
But Madison’s problems are just igniting. Neighboring regions report an uncharacteristic flare-up of evil, fire-breathing salamanders blaze unchecked across the city, and Black Friday looms. Trapped doing cleanup amid mobs of holiday shoppers, Madison watches from the sidelines as dubious allies insinuate themselves in her region.
As suspicions kindle and the mysterious evil gains strength, Madison must determine who she can trust—and whose rules to follow—before her region and career go up in flames.
Sizzling with adventure and sparking with magic, A FISTFUL OF FIRE is fused with Madison Fox’s trademark blend of humor and ass-kicking action
This is the second audiobook in the Madison Fox series. The story takes place in California and deals with Illuminant Enforcers who rid the world of demonic imps, vervet, hounds, and demons. This is Madison’s second week on the job and since she is new to the enforcer world, she is just getting to know the structure of the Enforcer world. Each warden owns a territory and apparently the other wardens want Brad Pitt, her boss, thrown out of his seat.
Madison finds herself in the middle of the enforcer politics and ends up working the Black Friday weekend at the mall. Apparently Cito (little supernatural creatures naked to the human eye), are running wild at the mall causing shoppers to be angry and aggressive. The mall is overwhelmed and what Madison finds in the parking garage of the mall leads to bigger problems.
This was another great installment with plenty of action, humor and world building. Since Madison is a totally newbie to this world, we learn information as she does. As it turns out, the pay is good for a reason.
I love the supernatural creatures and Chastain did a great job of developing secondary characters. The snark, office politics and reveals concerning the overall series arc have me fully engaged. A romance is developing, but we saw no movement in this episode. But hey, it’s only Madison’s second week on the job!
Elise Arsenault narrates and has captured Madison perfectly. She does a pretty mean villain too! Her narration from tone to voices enhances the series and makes listening a pleasure.
