Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela - the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can't be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Can they conquer an agony of frustration and slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?

Fave Narrator INFURIATING paranormal snarky

UNTOUCHABLE by Kresley Cole is the eighth novel in the Immortals After Dark series.  I have been devouring them on audio thanks to the stellar narrations of Robert Petkoff.  UNTOUCHABLE was filled with frustrations for our couple and the timeline overlapped previous books. While aspects left me cold I ended up enjoying this tale and the IAD world.

The timeline of Murdoch Wroth and Daniela’s story overlaps those of the previous Wroth brothers and Cole managed quite well. While each book works on its own, I highly recommend reading them in order. Timelines, key characters, and a Seer name Nix enhance the stories the further we progress into the series.

After 300 years, Murdoch finds his fated mated and his heart begins beating. I was very curious to learn Murdoch story. He has popped in and out of the previous books and Cole even hinted about him finding his mate. Daniela is Valkyrie but also part Icere. Her ice fey side has left her in hiding and unable to touch anyone.

Murdoch saves her and their messy, heated haters to lovers romance begins. Of course, Murdoch wants to deny his mate is a Valkyrie and then to not be able to touch her really sets him off. They get creative in the passion department, but their romance was turbulent with bickering and frustrations. I could have skipped the angst and miscommunication between them and often wanted to bop them on the heads. However, I did like that Cole reversed roles have Daniela be the one who pursues Murdoch. We get to see character growth between the two of them and got to visit Icere. Sacrifice, commitment, and determination made way for a sentimental and heartwarming ending.

Robert Pedkoff continues his stellar narration and for me, he brings these tales to life. His ability to handle both the female and male voices in addition to creating unique voices for them delivered a treat to my ears. I love that as soon as someone speaks I know who they are without any indicators.

Far from my favorite in this series, UNTOUCHABLE did offer humor, introduced new characters and had Nix heavily involved throughout. She is hands down my favorite character and I enjoyed her snark and meddling.

Despite some issues Untouchable by Kresley Cole narrated by Robert Petkoff left me smiling. Share on X

You are just zipping your way through this series, Kimberly! I’ll definitely listen to this series over reading because Robert Petkoff is such an amazing narrator! Thanks for the giveaway!

Oh, and I’ve listened to Cole’s The Dacians spin-off but not this series yet. I have also listened to Poison Princess and need to get caught up on that series!

  2. Melanie Simmons

I’m always frustrated with books where there is unneeded angst between the characters. It has been a while since I listened to this book, but I do remember it not being a favorite of mine.

  3. Lorna

I so need to get back into the series. Even though I own 5 in paperback, I still haven’t gone beyond book one. And I have told you that before I think. Glad you are enjoying them for the most part. I know all about wanting to bop some heads while reading at times!

  4. Sophia Rose

It’s been a while since I read the earlier books, but yeah, I remember wanting to thump this pair, too. LOL I think it’s amazing how she keeps everything straight and even does some parallel time line stories.

I was so confused for a minute because I knew I had read this one but I thought it was called Deep Kiss of Winter. I had to Google it to find out what the heck was going on. Then I realized the anthology was called Deep kiss of Winter and the story in the anthology was Untouchable. lol But I did love the story!

Great review. Thank you! I’ve got the series on my TBR. This is one several readers have recommend to me. Maybe after I finish the two series I’m working on now.

  7. Tanya

Was this always called “Untouchable”? For some reason I thought it was called something else.

  8. Heidi

Even though this wasn’t your favorite, at least you got snark and a great narrator.

  9. Linda Townsend

I have not! Sounds like I need to remedy that! Thanks for the giveaway!

It kind of sounds like this was one of those frustrating reads that you like, don’t love but you still love the characters and world so it doesn’t even matter that you didn’t love it. Hopefully that made sense LOL! Great review Kim and have a nice weekend!

  11. Janie McGaugh

I’ve read almost all the Immortals after Dark series and love them (and Robert’s narration for the ones I’ve listened to).

  12. Karen Blue

I haven’t heard about this series. I like characters with snark that meddle as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I love supernatural stories how much more immortals! My. Haven’t heard of this series before but after reading your review, I’ll definitely hunt them all even if this one had my most hated feeling which is frustration. And you are mated to someone you can’t touch?! Well, that’s definitely uncool, so I understand the frustration haha. I just joined the giveaway. Hopefully this series will be my first audio book ever.

Oh no! Miscommunication is my worst enemy! I’m glad there were some high points to help it enjoyable anyway! Lovely review, Kim!

That is the great thing about this series and her writing. There was plenty going on and lots to enjoy even if these two made me batty.

How am I missing this world and wonderful genre? Every time I read your reviews on this genre I get closer and closer to dipping into these books! Great review and thanks for sharing.

  16. Nadene

I must confess that even though I have heard great things about this author I have not read any of her books.

  17. Silvia

Even if this one wasn’t one of your favourite instalments, I’m glad you still enjoyed it! I have the first book in the series, I hope I can squeeze it in my Summer reading schedule 🙂

Awesome review. Thanks for the giveaway, Kim. I’ve heard about this series but haven’t read any book of it yet. One day definitely. Glad to know it can be read as a standalone, though. Which books in this series are your most favorites? Reading all of them might be hard for me since I have lots books to read & review.

I am still working my way through them and will be starting book 10 soon. Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night was my highest rated. If you click on series above it will show you the ones I have reviewed.
