George Holloway has spent his life alone, exploring the treacherous beauty of the Colorado Rockies. He's the best survival expert Search and Rescue has, which makes him the obvious choice to lead Ellie Price through deadly terrain to find her missing father. There's just one problem-Ellie's everything George isn't. She's a city girl, charming, gregarious, delicate, small. And when she looks up at him with those big, dark eyes, he swears he would tear the world apart to keep her safe. Ellie's determined to find her father no matter the cost. But as she and her gorgeous mountain of a guide fight their way through an unforgiving wilderness, they find themselves in the crosshairs of a dangerous man in search of revenge. And they are now his prey . . . Contains mature themes.

2017 fave Audiobook Humor ROMANCE SUSPENSE

“Holy moly,” Chelsea breathed, no longer appearing like she was about to laugh. “I want one. I want a George. Are there more like him in the mountains? Because we can close the store, fly to Colorado, and go George-shopping, only for me this time.”- Gone Too Deep

Favorite Hero ever! GONE TOO DEEP is the third audio in the Search and Rescue romantic suspense series set in Colorado by Katie Ruggle. In GONE TOO DEEP Geroge Halloway, an expert survivalists agrees to guide Ellie Price into the Colorado Rockies. It will take three days to reach her family’s cabin where her mentally unstable father is hiding. Filled with suspense and a slow burning, adorkable romance, I dare you not to fall in love with George.

Ellie receives a phone call from her estranged father who is frantic and convinced someone is trying to kill him. Picking apart his conversation, she realizes he is at their family cabin n Colorado and leaves Chicago to find her Dad. I liked Ellie from the onset, she was smart, determined and funny. Any woman who sees whining as a weakness is welcome to be my friend. Chin up and all that. She arrives in Simpson, CO a small mountain town where all of our books are set and stops at the coffee shop. Dressed as a Chicagoan she immediately falls in the parking lot and is picked up, literally off her feet by George who carries her into the cafe and leaves. Hells yes, I am all in.

Ellie ends up befriending a few characters from previous books who aid her and ultimately have George taking her on the three-day hike up to the cabin. George doesn’t speak, in fact, he kind of grunts. I wasn’t sure how I would handle a man like George..but oh gods I want one. (sorry hubs) I absolutely loved their interaction and the slow building romance that develops. Elie is this outgoing, confident and sometimes awkward character who gets George. I melted, laughed until I saw tears and swooned over this sensitive, shy, intelligent man.

While the romance was enough to keep me listening and happy, we had the added bonus of a suspenseful mystery concerning Ellie’s Dad and a couple of dark villains. Ruggle picked up on the previous suspense thread left opened in FAN THE FLAMES and gave our hero and heroine quite the adventure. I loved how this seamlessly tied into the overall series and while the romance wrapped up and left me happy, the suspense thread had me yelling out loud and begging for the next audio. The twists and turns not to mention the need for more answers despite getting more tidbits have left me pushing the next audio to the front of my TBR pile.

GONE TOO DEEP is my favorite installment of the Search and Rescue series to date. I loved George!

About Katie Ruggle

Katie Ruggle

A fan of the old adage β€œwrite what you know”, Katie Ruggle lived in an off-grid, solar- and wind-powered house in the Rocky Mountains until her family lured her back to Minnesota. When she’s not writing, Katie rides horses, shoots guns (not while riding, although that would be awesome), cross-country skis (badly) and travels to warm places where she can scuba dive. A graduate of the Police Academy, Katie received her ice-rescue certification and can attest that the reservoirs in the Colorado mountains really are that cold. A fan of anything that makes her feel like a bad-ass, she has trained in Krav Maga, boxing and gymnastics.

Well, now I have to meet George! I’m pretty sure I saw this at the bookstore when I went over the weekend and was considering it, but ended up going for a Tessa Dare novel. I’m hitting myself for not deciding to get this one as well. It sounds fantastic, and I like that the suspense is a strong element too.
    Great review, Kim!

No, there aren’t a lot of them here, unless they are hiding from me. LOL Oh this sounds SO good and I know it will make me lament that I cannot find this town with George in it. πŸ˜€

So I guess you have to read the first two books to understand the mystery? Because I really want to meet George and I don’t want to wait πŸ™‚ You have certainly sold him, but I will wait and see what you say about reading this as a standalone. Thanks for sharing!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I would. While each book handles one couple and the suspense thread they are in, all tie together in one big mystery. It is quite brilly.

EEEEEKKK! I’m so glad you liked this one. George is AWESOME! My only issue is with the cover….does he have to look so sweat stained?

  14. Melanie Simmons

That clip is exactly what came to my mind too. I agree with you that George is the best hero ever. This series has been full of “unusual” characters that have been so perfect. Great review.
