I enjoy Kelley Armstrong’s writing, so I was delighted to try her first romantic comedy, Finding Mr. Write. When Daphne McFadden’s book is rejected, she submits her book as a male author and finds herself in a bidding war & huge book deal… only now everyone wants to meet Zane Remington. What’s a girl to do?

Daphne McFadden already knows that as a female author, the cards are stacked against her. Now she knows just how much. Because her sudden whim to pose as an “outdoorsy hunk of masculinity” male author for her new book just resulted in the unthinkable: a bidding war, a huge book deal, and the kind of fame every author dreams of. Now she’s in big trouble. Because she needs to convince the world that Zane Remington actually exists . . . but how?
By hiring an actor, of course.
Only Chris Stanton is not an actor—not officially. He’s used to balancing the books, not pretending he wrote one. Still, he’s mostly certain he can pose as some overly macho bro-author. But when the media descend on Daphne’s gorgeous remote home in the Yukon, it’s not enough for Chris to just be the face of Zane Remington—he’ll have to become him. All while hilariously balancing the terrifying dangers of the wilderness, a massive femme fandom, and a serious crush on Daphne. But as the hype circus gets more out of control, it’s just a matter of time before someone discovers their little write lie . . .
Coffee Dates With Finding Mr. Write
- First Date– As someone who loves books, audiobooks and works with authors and publishers, this book was hilarious. Along the way, Armstrong hit on relevant truths about the industry. Daphne McFadden is an outdoorsy writer who lives in Alaska, carries bear spray and has written a post apocalypse story. I felt her frustration at being rejected and her surprise when her book goes into a bidding war and lands a deal. When Daphne and her best friend decide to hire an actor for the cover, I was all in.
- Second Date– I loved the meet-cute between Chris Stanton, aka Zane and Daphne. Chris is acting, but he’s not an actor and in his head he imagines how Daphne will want Zane to be. This man knows nothing about the outdoors, has never handled a gun, let alone encountered a bear. The two end up at her cabin for a television interview and it goes viral, pushing the publisher to want lots of signings. The two decide Daphne will travel with him as his assistant. I loved their chemistry as Chris charms and negotiates their tour accommodations. They might just pull this off. That is until Daphne gets an email that changes everything. Someone knows about Zane.
- Third Date– As their relationship moves out of the friends’ zone, things heat up on the tour and Chris does something radical. I laughed, adored the cute dog, and swooned a little, even if I wanted to knock a few heads. I loved the little side topics involving the industry from staff to the CEO. We see lots of character growth from both Daphne and Chris before the story wrapped up. Armstrong delivered a cute, funny RomCom perfect for fans of books.

I love your coffee date reviews! I’m super excited about this one! I finally read one of her Casey Duncan books and loved it so am wanting to read more and love the idea of a lighter romance.
Rachel @Waves of Fiction
I thought this was a light romance and overall enjoyable, but it took me ages to get through the story. I love Armstrong’s writing but not every book from a favorite writer is always a hit run. Wonderful review, Kimberly!
Lola
I haven’t read this one yet, but I bought a copy on release day and look forward to reading it. This one sounds so fun and I like Kelley Armstrong’s writing style.

I enjoyed this one too. Chris was just lovely.

I am not surprised this was such a hit. You definitely see the inside and underside of the book industry so would know how the heroine felt.
I hope to read it at some point.
Anne - Books of My Heart
I enjoyed this one.

Lovely review, Kimberly. I need to get hold of this one as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Armstrong’s writing over the years and I’m fascinated to learn how she copes with a rom-com:).
