From #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery—a story of friends who become family, giving each other courage to start over…
When fate brings three strangers to a charming space for lease on the California coast, the Boardwalk Bookshop is born. Part bookstore, part gift shop, part bakery, it's a dream come true for Bree, Mikki and Ashley. But while their business is thriving, their personal lives are…not.
Bree, wounded by brilliant but cold parents and her late husband's ultimate betrayal, has sworn to protect her heart at all costs. Even from Ashley's brother, a writer and adventurer who has inspired millions. He's the first man to see past Bree's barricades to her true self, which terrifies her. Mikki has this divorce thing all figured out—somehow, she's stayed friends with her ex and her in-laws…until a new man changes how everyone looks at her, and how she sees herself. Meanwhile, Ashley discovers that the love of her life never intends to marry. Can she live without being a wife if it means she can have everything else she's ever wanted?
At sunset every Friday on the beach in front of the Boardwalk Bookshop, the three friends share a champagne toast. As their bond grows closer, they challenge one another to become the best versions of themselves in this heartachingly beautiful story of friendship, sisterhood and the transformative power of love.
Bree Larton, Mikki Bartholomew and Ashley Burton didn’t know each other six months ago, but fate brought the three together when they bought a beachfront property in Los Angeles. Individually, the rent was too high, but together the three of them took their stores; Driftaway Books, The Gift Shop and Muffins to the Max and created The Boardwalk Bookshop. Sounds like paradise, right?
Mallory shares their lives from relationships to the storefront. Bree has commitment issues, Mikki is divorced and has just started dating and Ashley, who has been expecting an engagement ring, learns her long-term boyfriend has other plans for them.
The three soon become fast friends and I loved their Friday afternoon wine chats. Mallory made me feel a part of it and I loved seeing the women encourage each other and following all the happenings.
Narrated by Tanya Eby, I quickly became caught up in the different threads from books to kisses with complications. The author did a lovely job of pulling me in and sharing everything from the mundane to the unexpected.
Tanya Eby was delightful as the narrator, giving voice to Bree, Ashley and Mikki. This is a great summer listen and the perfect women’s fiction for those who like a touch of romance.

I love Susan Mallery’s novels, particularly in audiobook format, narrated by Tanya Eby. I’m currently listening to The Sister Effect, and I also very much like the sound of the book reviewed here, so will keep the title in mind.

This sounds like such a fun setup and a good summery read.

I have loved the Susan Mallery stand alones that I’ve read and I love the sound of this one. The title alone is enough to grab me.

I’ve enjoyed this author but not recently as I read somewhat less romance.

How funny is that! I’ve literally just been reading another blogger’s thoughts on this very book.
Give me a book with book/library/book store in the title and I’m all ears. … and that it has such a summery cover helps. That said I’m always a bit dubious about a book written by/recommended by any #1 {add publication} Best Selling author.
Not a fan of the audiobook as you know but I have to admit that to be sitting on the beach/pool side listening to a summer read does sound kind of nice.
