In the new Tidewater novel by the author of Guarded, a kiss between strangers draws both into unexpected danger and unforgettable desire... She’s searching for a sign... Hannah Halloran has always believed in her gift. The things she sees through her psychic touch have never led her wrong before. Not when they led her to an unforgettable night with a sexy marine at a bar. Not when she felt a need to leave her home and find the sisters she barely knows. And not now, when she is an unwilling witness to a brutal murder... He’s ready to show her... All Niall Graham wants is some peace. He’s recovering from the horrors of war, struggling to save his family’s restaurant, and desperate to forget Hannah, the beautiful woman who left him with memories of a mind-blowing night together and a bogus phone number. But a quiet life is hard to manage—especially when Hannah strides back into his restaurant with the news that a serial killer is on the loose and lurking closer than anyone could have guessed...

BOOKLOVE coverlove paranormal MURDERMYSTERY twisted

I love the Tidewater series by Mary Behre and totally recommend them. Energized the third novel was one of my favorites. Behre delivered suspense, a second chance romance and took us into the mind of a killer. If you like romantic suspense with paranormal elements the Tidewater series offers lovable characters and suspenseful tales.

Hannah Halloran can touch metal objects and read the thoughts of the person who handled the object. She is working in her parents bar when a sexy Marine sits down for a drink and it ends up turning into an unforgettable night. Much to her disappointment her Marine never calls her. Niall Graham is trying to battle the lingering side effects of war and has just returned to Tidewater. Late at night, he often thinks about Hannah and the bogus phone number she gave him. Call it fate or destiny but when a chance to find her sisters takes Hannah to Tidewater, their paths will cross again.

I love second chance romances and the chemistry between Niall and Hannah was electric. Things start out rocky, but as Hannah begins getting visions concerning a twisted killer it brings them closer together. I love how realistic their emotions and reactions were giving us those awkward, shy, butterflies and heat moments that come with a new romance. It was not easy and began a little rough in part because of the phone number and Niall’s not so magical conversation skills.

“Hey, Marine?” She closed the short distance between them. In her bare feet, she had to tip her head way back to look at him. It made him feel too big. Her, too small. “You plan to get undressed anytime soon? Or do you just plan to drop trou and do it with your boots on. ’Cause hot as that sounds, I was kind of hoping for something that would last a little longer than fifteen seconds.”

Secondary characters from the bumbling detectives to Hannah’s sisters and their significant others reunited us with previous characters. It was exciting to see the sisters united. Although the stories central focus was the killer and the romance. I really liked the thread about Niall’s brother Ryan and OMG I want to read the full story of him and Ian.

The suspense in Energized was off the chart as Behre took us into the mind of a killer, laid out red herrings and provided a twist that was brilliant. Through Hannah’s ability, we see flashbacks into the killer’s mind and it was downright chilling. Behre did not stop there because she also gave us a POV from the killer and it notched up the suspense. She created the type of urgency that had me completely engaged. I have been impressed with all the crime threads in this series and Behre has quickly become a favorite in the romantic suspense genre.

Some may be disappointed that we did not get to spend more time with the three sisters and their reunion. However, I appreciated that Energized focus was directed at the killer and romance. Behre does a great job of balancing the main threads allowing readers to enjoy a well-developed story. All of her characters even the secondary are memorable, so much so, that I can recall all of their names without pulling out the book.

Energized and the Tidewater series delivers all the elements I love when reading romantic suspense. The added twist of paranormal woo-woo makes them a favorite on my bookshelf.

  2. Lindy

I’m fascinate by the killer mind. Energized sounds like the perfect combination of suspense, romance, and paranormal elements. Great Review Kim 🙂

  3. Sophia Rose

I’ve got this one coming up for a read soon. So glad it was a hit. Good to know that the focus won’t be on the reunion so much b/c I was anticipating that.

I’ve been hearing good things about Behre. After reading your review, I’ll certainly be checking out this series. I don’t know if you have to read them in order or not, but Energize sounds right up my alley. You know I’m a sucker for second-chance romances and I’m in need of some suspense in my reading diet. 😉

  5. Braine Talk Supe

I should’ve read this instead of the one I just finished (so lame!). I hate spending my time on a book that’s less than 3-stars. I’ll make up for it, I’ll read this sometime this week. Love the high marks you gave it.

  6. Lorna

Okay, okay, You sold me again-even though I didn’t really enjoy the second book. I did however LOVE the first one! So I really do want to see the three sisters together finally, and the romance and mystery seems totally way more than the last one. Going to Amazon now 🙂

  7. Mary Kirkland

I haven’t read this series or this author but I’ve been reading a lot of great reviews for this book and it sounds like one that I would like.

  8. Debbie Haupt

OOH I love the love em and leave em then second chances romances Kim, plus what could be better than a mix of paranormal, romance and suspense. This is definitely going on my list especially with your rockin review!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

This series is wonderful Debbie. The mysteries, paranormal woo-woo and romances were all well done. This book was my favorite of the series.

  9. Heidi

OH this sounds good. I always love books that features characters who can sense things through touch. I will have to look up this series.

    • kimbacaffeinate

This series is excellent Heidi, and each sister has abilities. So we get a case and romance in each. I’ve read/reviewed the entire series and enjoyed them. I plan to read more from this author. There is some sexy time, but it is limited and not painfully detailed.

  10. Heather Duff

I haven’t read any of these and I certainly don’t need anything else to read but I do like the sound of this series, must resist adding to TBR pile……

  11. Jenn

I love reading your posts. I should check out this series sometime. Thanks for sharing.

A really nice review here! I saw a book by this author on another blog and was wondering about her style. I think you nailed it and I so appreciate your heat meter that you use on the blog now. For instance you use 5 cups for your rating, so are there 5 flames for heat too? I will be sure to put this series on my wishlist now and pick up sometime. Sounds like fun!

  13. Michelle

I can’t remember if I’ve seen this series before, there are so many Paranormal series out there I tend to look track of which one is which, lol!

    • kimbacaffeinate

This is a good one to read Michelle. I reviewed all of them, so perhaps you saw them here. I will be reading more books by her.

  14. Ramona

Well, it sounds like an interesting mix of things, and with a Marine as a romantic interest, no less. It’s usually a good sign when the secondary characters are also memorable… Glad you enjoyed it, Kimba – lovely review 🙂

  15. Red Iza

I already noticed the cover, the blurb looks great and your review is enticing ^^

  16. Jenny

I am SUCH a sucker for a marine (or any military branch) hero Kim, so I think this would be a win with me. Yes to paranormal romantic suspense! I haven’t read enough of that sub-genre:)

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh me too and psst you have to capitalize Marine. I had such fun with this series and totally recommend it..I am sure you would love it!

  17. Nick

Ohhh! Hot marine, second chance romances and an awesome-sounding mystery? Well, I don’t need more convincing! I’m glad this series is going so well for you, Kim! 🙂
    Great review!

I seriously have no excuse for not trying this series because I own the first book but, having said that, I’m so relieved to see this ended so well. Makes me not hesitate to start it. 😉

    Wonderful review!
