Lives—and hearts—are on the line in Yukon Valley, Alaska.
Yukon Valley Fire Chief Tuli Sampson has spent years protecting his hometown, but the only thing he’s ever wanted to save is Louise Wright’s heart. His childhood best friend has always been his anchor, steady and unyielding like the Yukon River. Now, with his career thriving and his charm earning him fame as a tourist influencer, Tuli is ready to risk it all for the woman who’s been his forever girl.
Louise Wright, a shy and dedicated medic, has spent her life dreaming of more—more courage, more love, and maybe even Tuli. He’s always been her secret wish, the one man who could make her heart race faster than a snowstorm. But just as their undeniable chemistry sparks into something real, Lou receives devastating news that threatens to shatter their future.
Caught between her own happiness and Tuli’s, Louise chooses his. But in a town where matchmakers never quit and love runs deeper than the salmon-filled rivers, can these childhood friends turn years of longing into a lifetime together?
While each of the novels in the Yukon Valley, Alaska series has its own romance, I recommend reading them in order for two reasons. The first is an overall suspense thread concerning developers wanting to mine the mountains. The second reason is because of the spoilers concerning the previous couples and previous encounters with the current couple.
I hate the cold, so I do not know why I love romance novels set in Alaska, but I get excited every time I find one..lol. This series surrounds the local hospital and locals impacted by these developers trying to gain access to their land. I love the small-town vibe, meddling and medical community.
Tuli Sampson is the Yukon Valley Fire Chief. He was injured in a previous novel and is now back on the job. He isn’t fully recovered and is hiding that fact. In love with his childhood friend, Louise Wright, he is almost ready to risk everything and make her his forever girl. He may need to speed things up, as her cousin Hunter has other ideas. Louise has deep feelings for Tuli too, but will sacrifice her own happiness for his.
The tale that unfolds pulled me in, and I liked both Tuli and Louise. The friendship, banter and stirring feelings had me fully invested. I loathed her cousin and the way he pushed himself into the council meetings, family dinners and more. The sacrifice, meddling and tender moments make this the perfect read for a rainy summer evening.
David did a wonderful job with the overall suspense thread, delivering twists and keeping me engaged. I loved our couple. Their feelings felt genuine, as did their heated passion. Secondary characters enhanced the tale and are one reason I love small-town romances.

yes! there is something about an Alaska setting. Maybe it’s the survival thing that cuts everything to a basic level of needs? I think I’d like everything about this except the cousin.
