Coffee Pot ReviewsWelcome to Coffee Pot Reviews! These are short and sweet reviews done in the length of time it takes my coffee pot to brew! I have two romances to share with you today..enjoy and stick around for a cup of mocha coffee! Romantic Suspense is one of my favorite genres and today I am sharing Harmonized by Mary Behre, a novella in Tidewater series with a little paranormal twist and Sinclair Justice by Colleen Shannon the second novel in her action-packed Texas Rangers series. Grab a cup of coffee or some earl of grey and one of these tasty muffins I baked just for this occasion *kicks bakery box out of view* and enjoy!!

Sinclair Justice is the second novel in the Texas Rangers series by Colleen Shannon. This one features the sexy Captain- Ross Sinclair and historical preservationist Emm Rothschild. Emm is in Texas to evaluate a historical property. She is also hoping to speak to the head of the task force involved in a human trafficking ring, as she has been searching for her sister and niece. Things get off to a bad star for Emm when she is pulled over and arrested for speeding. Turns out the officer arresting her owns the building being evaluated and is lead on the investigation. Oh boy! Banter, misunderstanding and attraction all play a role in this romance. I was delighted to see this couple is older. Emm is 38 and Ross is fifty-two. So refreshing! We get some sexy, but Shannon teases us as she makes us wait for dessert. We see characters from Foster Justice, book one, but both books work as standalone novels.

The suspense angle involving drug cartels and human trafficking was intense but be warned we witness rape, enslavement, drug abuse and violence. It is very realistic and quickly becomes evident that Shannon researched the subject extensively. Emm puts her education to use researching for connections between where her sister disappeared, Texas and the drug cartel. She is ruthless, but quite clever. The suspense was riveting and the last few chapters had me biting my nails. We get a few chapters from the perspective of Emm’s sister while she is in captivity and I found these chapters to be dark and engaging.

Sinclair Justice was an intense suspense but I loved the romantic aspect weaved throughout and I found myself falling for yet another Texas Ranger.

After nearly dying on assignment, Tidewater police officer Zig Harmon has been awarded the Silver Star and desk duty. But handling every case that walks through the door while his entire department is out hunting a serial killer is nothing compared to dealing with his former flame, Karma De La Cruz. As much as she hates it, Karma knows that her best chance of finding the kidnapped baby haunting her visions is the man she once left behind. Forced to work together, Karma and Zig start to realize that they may have let go of something incredible. But now, time is running out, both for the missing infant and for their chance to start again...

I must tell you, I love the Tidewater series by Mary Behre. It has just a wee touch of paranormal making this romantic suspense series delightfully good. Harmonized is a novella and offered up Zig Harmon’s story. We met Zig in a previous book and I was delighted to get his story. Behre delivered a great case, updated us a little on characters and other ongoing cases. Karma De La Cruz is the love interest and this second chance romance and perfect for a novella. I loved Karma and Zig together and the story delivered just enough heat to make me smile. The case that brings them together concerns a missing infant. Law enforcement has determined that the child is deceased. Karma’s ability has her convinced the baby is alive. The tale wrapped up completely and satisfied my fix for this series between full-length novels. Harmonized will work as a standalone and is the perfect way to try this author.

  1. Mary

Ooh, like your little heat level icon! Cute. Both of these sound really good. I haven’t read the Texas Rangers one but I do like Behre!

  2. Sophia Rose

I adore the Tidewater series, too! Loved this short one that gave a romance and case of a fun secondary character from Spirited.

  3. Teddyree

yay for tea and muffins (I found my own lol) and both these sound good. I like your comment about Harmonized being a good intro to Mary Behre’s work as I haven’t read anything by the author!

  4. Lorna

So this isn’t one of the sisters? I have read the first two of the Tidewater series, and to be honest,I didn’t like the second one as much as I liked the first. This one sounds really good-I might have to read this one as well 🙂

  5. Lindy

The suspense in Sinclair Justice sounds intense and gripping. I find the drug cartels and human trafficking to be scary and horrifying. This topic makes for an interesting story. Harmonized sounds like a great romantic suspense. I’m curious about what the paranormal aspect is in reference to. Is it Karma’s visions? Second chance romance is always fun. Wonderful coffeepot reviews Kim 🙂

  6. Christy

Both sound great! And I am so digging the ages … 38 and 52-years-old. You have no idea. lol.

  7. Sophia

I think I might be a cover sucker for Harmonized. Anyone got paint? 😉

Anyways, both authors are new to me. I’m glad you really enjoyed it, Kimba, hope your next read is just as good!

  8. Kathy

Not to sound sexist or like I’m cover ogling, but the cover for Sinclair Justice, itself, makes me want to read it. The stance of the model, the gun, the badge all scream adventure and action. Harmonizing looks really good, too!

  9. Melissa (Books and Things)

Oh I’ve been wanting to try the Tidewater series. This sounds so good and right up my alley. Might have to try that first one mostly b/c of the ages. You don’t often get people in that age class in romances.

  10. Heidi

It must have been an engaging and exciting read if you were able to rate it so highly despite the rape and violence.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was, and those things don’t bother me if they are done right and make sense for the story. I just tend to warn folks who are sensitive to those types of things, since I know it can be a trigger.

  11. Ramona

What, you’re doing two at a time now? Do you ever sleep??? 🙂 I do like the sound of the first one – banter and misunderstandings can add so much spice to a romance!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ha..no I mean yes I do sleep..occasionally, when absolutely necessary. I haven’t been posting on Saturdays and wanted to squeeze in Nonna’s Corner and some Recipe and tip posts..so doubling up especially for series books makes sense.

  12. Lark

Harmonized should appear on my Kindle tomorrow – I preordered it! The Colleen Shannon book intrigues me; I am all for an older heroine (although 38 isn’t old, it seems to be for romance novels!) Thanks for two good reviews!

  13. Keionda

Yayyy Tea! And yayyy coffee!;) I’m glad you enjoyed these two books girl! I love the second book’a cover and I love the idea of your minI reviews. Super cute!♡

  14. Jenny

You know Kim, I still have yet to read a book that features a Texas Ranger as the hero. I think I need to remedy that IMMEDIATELY! The chapters from Emm’s sister’s perspective are undoubtedly brutal, so I’m going to have to brace myself for those I think. Still, definitely adding this to the list!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh yes..hey that would make a fun challenge. Read a book with a Texas Ranger, read a book with a reporter, a baker, a priest…yep cool idea,

  15. Nick

Both of these sound pretty wonderful, Kim, but I have to say I’m more intrigued by Harmonized. I love that it has paranormal and romantic suspense elements to it. Will have to check out this series for sure.
    Great reviews, Kim!

  16. Silvia

They’re both new to me, but I’m glad those books worked so well for you! I wouldn’t mind a romantic suspense read, so thanks for pointing them my way 😉

  17. Lover Of Romance

I actually really love my suspense in romance, so I just gotta grab Sinclair Justice!!! Love how many different aspects it has included and I like that its very realistic and not sugar coated.

  18. Melliane

Yay for Texas Rangers, they’re always nice to follow. Ad for the second series, I really enjoyed book 1 but I’m curious about the others, mainly if they’re so good!
