Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers. Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do. Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command. Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet

Fans of the Weird Girls series are going to love the glimpse back offered in A Curse Awakened by Cecy Robson. We travel back to the time right before the sister’s headed for Tahoe. We learn how they break the binding spell that is messing with their abilities. Action-packed, A Curse Awakened is filled with humor and danger as it answers questions about the girls’ powers and introduces them to the supernatural world.

Through Celia’s narrative, we learn about the sisters’ curse, their parent’s deaths and meet Danny. Danny, Celia’s ex-boyfriend, is in serious trouble with a group of vampires, and the girls decide to help. First, they need full control of their powers, and Danny may be able to help them. The tale that unfolds had me consuming it in one breathless, hilarious sitting.

Robson delighted me with the sister’s banter and snark in A Curse Awakened. I love how genuine the girls are as they attempt to free themselves and help Danny. Seeing them fight with their abilities before and after the binding was awesome and hilarious. Robson explained each of their powers, and we witnessed the changes in those abilities. The focus here is truly on the sisters, so there is no romance and all of that lovely drama, but it was so refreshing. While this is a novella, Robson proves once again that she is a master storyteller regardless of the length. Fans of the series will gobble this up and be eager to dive back in with the next release, A Cursed Bloodline releasing November 18, 2014. This Weird Girl fan cannot wait!

You should try the audio of this series, I know Loupe loves them.

Bantering sisters? Vampires? Count me in! This series sounds like a lot of fun. I haven’t heard of this one before, but it sounds like I need to check it out.

  2. ShootingStarsMag

Love some good humor and snark in a book. I know I read the first book a long time ago, so I might need to look into this series again.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, you need to catch up…so much has happened Lauren 🙂

  3. Katherine

Sounds good! I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series and the summary sounds really promising. All the talk of binding spells reminds me a little of Charmed which was always a fun watch.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Katherine..this has a little Charmed appeal to it. Especially with the sisters. You should try book one. 🙂

  4. Mary

I have one of this series on my shelf — need to read it! You know I love snark and banter. They’re my favorite things.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Agreed they both make me grin like the Cheshire cat 🙂

Oh, my goodness. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for your kind words and enthusiasm. I hope those who are already fans continue to enjoy my work. For those who haven’t read the novels, I hope you’ll give my Weird Girls a try. Many thanks to Kimberly for the wonderful review and feature!

I’ve been seeing this series around lately. I’m getting more curious!

  7. Michelle

banter- check. Snark double check! This is a series that I can’t wait to read. ( i know I am super late to the bandwagon.)

    Great review Kimba 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Hey, it doesn’t matter how late you start..just that you enjoy the ride!

    • kimbacaffeinate

You need to do it. I heard the audio version is good too Candace!

  8. Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

I love this too, and I loved that it was romance-free for a change. I just read the Cursed Bloodline and it made me appreciate this romantic drama-free novella even more. I thought it was a grat introduction to the series for those unfamiliar with it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ooo I plan to read that soon myself. Gads, I will need chocolate!

    • kimbacaffeinate

This series is such fun Brandi. I hope you get a chance to try them 🙂

  9. Debbie Haupt

Kimba great review what a unique premise to this series in a sometimes overwhelmed genre. I’d love to read these. Thanks

    • kimbacaffeinate

This series is a blast Debbie and at times intense with action and love. I enjoy the banter, and craziness of it all 🙂

  10. Lupdilup

I had made time to read this one, unless I hear that is going to be publish on audio, but I don’t like my chances since they don’t too many novellas 🙁 – I love this series on audio.
Thanks so much for the chance Kimba 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well I am glad you like the series on Audio. Hmm, Christy and I could take turns calling you and reading it to you. That would be like audio right?

  11. Melliane

Oh yes I really enjoyed this one as well. It was so fun to discover a little more about the girls. Can’t wait to read the last book!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I agree Melliane, and I liked that the focus was on them and not relationships.

  12. Felicia the Geeky Blogger

I picked this series (the first book) for book club for October because everyone raves about these. I am determined to try it and also abuse my power as leader by picking books I want to read LOL

    • kimbacaffeinate

Wahoo! Enjoy and it’s perfect for Halloween season 🙂

  13. Nick

I was curious about the sisters’ curse in the first book, so I’m glad to hear that this novella answers questions. I don’t read novellas, but this one I will because it sounds like fun and I like this series very much! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am not a huge fan of them, but make exceptions for certain series etc..

  14. Jenea

I will be picking this prequel up! It sounds like a really good addition to the series. Great review.

  15. braine

I hope we get a novel or a few from one of the sisters aside from Celia
Taran would make a great narrator, it’ll be… colorful for sure

    • kimbacaffeinate

Lol, ooh I agree Braine. I would like that..you should write her and request it!

      • Braine

Oh believe me I do. I say it on my reviews and I tell her via email and on Twitter. I even ask for Novellas starring the other girls! She told me before she’s planning on at Taran book, may be the fifth one? I think she changed her mind about that.

  16. Red Iza

I never heard of that series before but everybody seems to find it great, I have to read this 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well I am glad I introduced you, it is action packed, full of snark and great characters..with lots of paranormal woo-woo!

  17. Lexxie

This whole series sounds incredible, Kim! I love magic, and if there are other paranormal elements, too, I’m a happy reader if there’s a good story with characters I want to cheer on in one way or another 🙂
    Great review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I love this series, and the characters are fantastic Lexxie

  18. Siiri

Oooh, binding spells are always such trouble so good for the girls for breaking it 😀 I like the sound of the girls and Danny working together and helping each other out 😉 Yay for a great novella! It’s so hard to find these and even better if the romance doesn’t really bother to surface and the sibling bonds and the backstory get more of a focus here. Glad you enjoyed 🙂

  19. Christy

It feels like it has been so long since I’ve visited blogs. I’ve missed so much!

Anyway, yep, this was definitely a great prequel. I can’t wait to read the next book.
