We are back in the world of Cassie Black in The Untangled Cassie Black by Tammie Painter. Narrated by Samantha Desz, this urban fantasy filled with magic, suspense and a slow-burning romance pulled me in as Cassie is determined to stop archenemy, the Mauvais.

Sometimes taking an overdose of magic is the least of your problems.

Cassie Black has just lost two people through a magic portal. Her archenemy, the Mauvais, is threatening to destroy city after city if Magic Headquarters doesn't hand her over to him. And HQ isn't exactly saying no to that offer.

After the events of the last book, the Mauvais have escaped and taken Tobey and Alastair with them. The world is in danger, and Cassie feels compelled to act. As with most fantasy, the Cassie Black series is best listened to in the order of their release and as you will soon discover, this trilogy doesn’t stop at book three.

While Magic HeadQuarters debates Cassie’s fate and those of her friends, she makes plans to save them and the world. This tale has it all: traitors, characters that shine, snark and danger. Cassie, despite her reluctance, refuses to take this sitting down. Her struggles to control her magic aren’t enough to stop her from going after the Mauvais. She’ll do this while trying to heal her parents, save the man she might just be in love with, and catch a mole.

Originally, this was the conclusion of the Cassie Black trilogy and it offered a fitting ending. However, there are now three more books in this trilogy/series. The author delivered a well-paced, humorous tale with unique characters. We’ve got magic, mischief and mayhem perfect for fans of cozy urban fantasy.

Samantha Desz narrates the series and has become the voice of our reluctant hero, Cassie Black. Both her male and female voices offer a full range allowing me to know who is speaking. Samantha enhances the overall tale, and I highly recommend choosing the audio format for this series.
