Cassie Black is back, and she's now heading up MagicLand's newest detective agency. Well, sort of . . .
Cassie Black may have defeated an evil wizard, but that hasn't stopped her from getting kicked out of the Academy's detective training program. The upside is that it's forced Cassie to start her own agency. The downside? A lack of clients.
Cassie thinks her career is on the upswing when Rosaria's new mayor hires her to find a missing jewel. It's a huge case that could turn the agency around. Trouble is, the jewel hasn't been seen for over 500 years, and Cassie suspects there's more to the mayor's sudden demands the jewel be found.
What's more . . . something besides tea is brewing over at Magic HQ, but thanks to a little snag in the Magic bureaucracy, Cassie isn't allowed to lend her skills to the problem. In fact, if she doesn't sort out that bit of bureaucracy in the next few days, her sleuthing career will be over before it begins.
It all has Cassie looking wistfully back on the days when all she had to do was save the world.
If you like contemporary fantasy filled with wry humor, paranormal mystery, and diabolical office chairs, you'll love the twists and turns of this trilogy.
The Cassie Black Trilogy continues in The Unusual Mayor Marheart. The first three books dealt with finding her parents, learning about the magical world, and battling an evil villain. Now, Cassie is settling in and setting up shop in MagicLand. But first she needs a name for her detective agency, some clients and to figure out who is publishing horrible lies about her in the newspaper.
Cassie has come along way since she accidentally brought someone back to life. Her parents are slowly recovering and surprise her with a storefront in MagicLand. Cassie decides to open a detective agency and solve cases for the community. Of course, Cassie does this impulsively and I laughed when she didn’t even have a name for her agency. Of course, she opens without checking laws, codes etc.
The tale that unfolds has Cassie taking on cases, stumbling into trouble with the township and more. The new mayor hires her to find a missing jewel and things get complicated. Magical HQ is having its own problems, and I was all in. I am excited about the direction of the next three audiobooks.
If you like cozy paranormal mysteries, light urban fantasy with humor, an impulsive, good-hearted witch and magical communities, you’ll love this series narrated by Samantha Desz. Samantha does a fantastic job of voicing all the characters and capturing the tone of the stories. I highly recommend listening.

So, it’s a trilogy? But this is book 4? Does that mean this is a spinoff trilogy, or is it going to extend to just a series? Anyway, I still love the covers on these books and am glad to see you are still enjoying them. Great review!

Right. the arc from the first three books finished, and it is a sort of spinoff, but not. I don’t think you can just dive in here, like other spinoffs hence why I think they called it book 4. The covers are slightly different for the last 3 books.
