A grumpy cowboy and an even grumpier chef who are used to knocking boots and walking away are shocked to discover a deeper—if not antagonistic—connection after their night together, in the final book in the Griffith Brothers series.
Lennon’s number one rule is: Committing crimes is not a group project. Rule number two: Don’t start fights. Finish them. And rule number three: Don’t try to hustle a hustler. She knows she should have walked away and ignored that sweet-talking cowboy. Good things didn’t happen to people like her. But that cowboy wouldn’t leave her alone. And he should have known that if you can’t stand the heat, it’s better to get out of the kitchen.
Carson James knew the woman was trouble from the moment he laid eyes on her bruised knuckles in the bar. The last thing he expected was for her to show up on the ranch and bring that trouble to his front door. And he’s discovering it’s hard to maintain a grudge against a woman you find so attractive. He’s always liked playing with fire, but apparently so does she. Only time will tell which of them is going to get burned.
While each of the novels in the Griffith Brothers series provides a single romance, there are spoilers involving the previous couples and an overall arc about restoring and growing the family ranch.
The story begins at bar that readers of the series will remember. CJ lets off some steam with a snarky, totally hot woman and doesn’t even get her name. But he hasn’t stopped thinking about her. Lennon isn’t looking for romance, not that she’d ever trust someone, and she isn’t about to mess up her fresh start and new job. The tale that unfolded pulled me in and never let me go.
CJ has a chip on his shoulders. He isn’t happy with the changes at the ranch, particularly the lodge and steakhouse, so when he attends the family dinner and meets the new head chef, sparks fly. Lennon cannot believe her hookup is a Griffith. I absolutely loved the bickering and sizzling chemistry between Len and CJ, even if CJ acts like a total arse. But don’t worry, Lennon bites back!
I loved getting to know both CJ and Len as the author pulled back their layers and exposed their bruises. Lennon has had a rough go of it, betrayed by the only family she had, and it cost her. Seeing her guard come down and their relationship strengthen was rewarding. We see growth in CJ as he learns to accept change and find away to make it work for him.
If you are looking for swoon-worthy romances with family that will tug at your heartstrings, then you’ll want to add Fire Line to your TBR pile along with the rest of the series.
