I love the Greywalker series and Harper Blaine, so I was excited to listen to Kat Richardson’s Through the Grey. It’s a collection of short stories with three tales from the Greywalker series. Richardson did not disappoint, and we explore everything from the dead to a runaway reindeer.

Narrated by Kristin James, Richardson plunges us into the world of the Grey: a place where whatever you believe in hard enough comes to dangerous life, and death, magic, and the unexpected lie in wait. Harper Blaine sees the dead and in her stories she takes on cases where the dead cannot rest until she aids them. I loved each of the stories and was left wanting more from this world.

Richardson knows how to weave a story regardless of the subject, and she pulled me into each of the tales. Some set stories we know on end and twisted them, others made us ponder. I still shudder when I think of the reindeer.

You’ll meet dragons, step into a post-apocalyptic world and cross-paths with clockwork dogs. Except for the Harper Blaine stories, these shorts run from humorous to horror and everything in between. I found it worked best if I listened to one story at a time and then paused to digest it. It’s a smorgasbord and Kristin James did a stellar job of narrating the stories. She enhanced the stories from her pacing to the voices she gave to each story.

Through the Grey has stories for fans of mystery, suspense, supernatural and fantasy. My favorites were the Harper Blaine stories, but I also enjoyed the warrior and her dragon, the clockwork dogs and an undead thief.

It’s always a pleasure listening to/reading this author and I hope we see more from her.
