Huge Dannika Dark fan here, so naturally I had to devour The Alpha as soon as the audio landed in my Inbox. Narrated by Nicole Poole, this is the second audio in the Black Arrowhead series. Suspense, Humor and a slow-building romance will keep you listening late into the night.

Book 2 will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Hope is a young woman on the brink of a successful career as a jeweler. The last thing she needs right now is trouble, but trouble finds her when she’s caught trespassing on private property. Bad luck is following her like a menacing cloud, and the only way to survive the storm is to walk through it.

Tak is a fish out of water in the city, but settling unfinished business with an old friend means leaving tribal land and traveling to Austin. Things heat up after a chance meeting with a captivating woman who commands his attention. Hope is intelligent, unpredictable, and knee-deep in trouble. Instead of burying the hatchet with his old friend, Tak risks everything to protect a woman he barely knows.

We are back at the shifter boutique, but this time it is Hope’s story. Hope is the jewelry maker. When her brother Lakota Cross, & Melody, along with the rest of their family, travel to set things right amongst both families, Hope offers to stay back and run their new business.

Tak arrives in town to settle things with Lakota and the meet cute/awkward between Hope and Tak had me grinning. When Tak learns the family will leave Hope unattended, he extends his trip to monitor her unbeknownst to everyone else. It’s a good thing too because trouble is brewing.

Dark gave us a delightful romance between a damaged Alpha and a headstrong, insecure female. She also wove a suspenseful story that kept me guessing. Tak’s story will tug at your heartstrings even if you do occasionally want to bop him on the back of the head. Hope is headstrong and considers asking for help a weakness which lands her in trouble. We see growth and healing from both characters.

Someone wants the boutique gone. Another shifter who owns a jewelry store is suspect number one, but he also shows an interest in Hope as a woman. Hope confronts her past as the danger escalates. Fans of the Mageriverse get to see characters from the Seven series. The author delivered an engaging tale that was grounded and kept me guessing.

Dark pulled me in from the romance to the suspenseful story and family drama. I laughed so hard at the interaction between Hope’s Dad the chief, and Tak. I didn’t want the story to end, but finished the audiobook with a smile.

Nicole Poole rocks the Magerivrese! While her female characters often sound the same, I enjoy her male voices and her tone. She nails Dark’s humor and brings her characters to life.

Swoons, laughs, suspense, and tender moments await you in The Alpha. While it is unnecessary to listen to The Vow first, I recommend you begin there. You’ll meet Melody, Lakota, and Tak there, as well as Hope.
