Are you ready for your next magical adventure?
Okay, so I’m in trouble. Big trouble. I’m broke. Worse, my boyfriend of five years just dumped me.
What do I do? I move in with my three eccentric aunts in their family home, Davenport House. Sounds exciting, only this massive farmhouse likes to eat men.
If I were a regular human, I would have run out screaming like a banshee. As a witch—I do absolutely nothing. Hey, maybe they deserved it?
I’m back in Hollow Cove, the flamboyant paranormal community, where nymphs, werewolves, trolls, shifters, witches, and other paranormals live comfortable lives away from prying human eyes. As I settle into my new life, I decide to accept my aunts’ proposal and join the family business—the business of protecting our town and killing anything that would want to harm it.
But I’ve been away from the paranormal world for quite some time, and my magical abilities are a little bit rusty. Heck, they’re practically invisible.
Things soon spiral down the crapper when people in our community start dropping like flies. And when demons start showing up in Hollow Cove, it’s up to me to take care of them. Permanently.
This is going to be awesome. I just know it.
Narrated by Devon Sorvari, Shadow Witch by Kim Richardson is the first audiobook in the Witches of Hollow Cove paranormal series. Humor, magic and a faced-paced tale were the perfect start to this series.
At twenty-nine, Tessa is moving to Hollow Cove to live with her aunties after she catches her boyfriend cheating. Hollow Cove is home to paranormals, and the Devon house is magical.
Tessa’s aunts protect the city along with Marcus the police chief. When Tessa agrees to join the family business, it isn’t all smooth sailing. Tessa hasn’t used magic in a long time. She and Marcus have a nasty first meet over a dead body and someone is summoning demons.
Richardson mixed mystery and humor into the tale as she introduced us to quirky characters. We get to know the town, world and magic alongside Tessa as she works to stop the threat. While the publishers are marketing this as an urban fantasy, it could fall just as neatly in the cozy mystery genre with paranormal elements. Call it what you will, but I loved the house, aunts and town. Did I mention I am a sucker for magical houses?
I am curious to see how things develop between Marcus and Tessa. There is definitely some chemistry, and Marcus is more than he seems. It will be fun to discover what more Richardson will unveil.
I am hoping the series brings character growth, as Tessa is young, quick to react and sarcastic. The house is a curious thing from its appetites to wards and while the world building was pretty straightforward; I am curious to learn more.
Fans of light urban fantasy, paranormal cozies and small-towns will want to back their bags and head to Hollow Cove. I recommend traveling by audio, as Devon Sorvari did a fantastic job from the characters to the pacing. The story flows well on audio, and Sorvari enhanced the story through her narration.

Oh yes please, a paranormal town and a house that eats men inhabited by eccentric aunties 🙂 Sounds like a winner. Thanks for the super review

I’m already making the eye emoji at the chemistry between Marcus and Tessa. Tessa sounds like a reactive spitfire which can be good for UF settings I think.
