Lacey 'Pink' Pinkerton has left behind a six figure job and her reputation as the million dollar nose—a nickname her super sense of smell earned her within the perfume industry. With her pet crow Kingston and a tabby cat named Nevermore, she is settling right into her new life in the small coastal town of Port Danby. With a flower shop opening soon and a full cast of quirky neighbors and friends, her new digs are exactly what she's been looking for. Away from the hectic hustle and bustle of the city Lacey has found peace and happiness. However, her heightened sense of smell proves to be of use once again when a Port Danby neighbor turns up dead. Lacey finds herself caught up in an unexpected murder investigation alongside the handsome local detective, James Briggs. She’s determined to find the killer and solve the murder mystery before any more bodies turn up.

MURDERMYSTERY Small-town MansBestFriend Book Series

I am trying to read free books I download for my Kindle. (I know crazy concept right?) Marigolds and Murder by London Lovett is the first in the Port Danby cozy-mystery series. Our protagonist is opening a flower shop in the small coastal town of Port Danby and I loved Lacey ‘Pink’ Pinkerton and her unusual pet Kingston and tabby named Nevermore.

Caffeinated Reason to grab Marigolds and Murder

  • Pumpkin Contests, a murder, an old spooky Victorian and a heroine with an insatiable curiosity. The small-seaside town will have you packing your bags and craving pumpkin bread with cream cheese icing. This is the perfect fall mystery to snuggle up with. Just grab a pumpkin spice latte and get cozy.
  • Since this was the first book we spent a little time getting to know Pink and the local merchants along the main street. Pink’s flower shop is situated between the local bakery and a coffee shop. The owners have a competition for foot traffic. It was fun seeing Elsie and Les, try to one-up each other. Across the street, we have Lola who owns an antique shop and befriends Lola. Then there is a local dinner, a corner store and a boutique. Pink also befriends her sexy neighbor Dash, and annoys the handsome police detective, James Briggs. I adored the feel of the town and wanted to pack my bags.
  • When a local competitor of the annual largest pumpkin contest is found dead, Pink cannot help but use her unusual nose to sleuth out whodunit. This was an interesting case. Pink‘s gift, curiosity, and her Nancy Drew sleuthing skills soon have her investigating and consulting with Briggs.
  • The pets…I love Pink’s pets and their stories. How they came to live with her quickly made her someone I’d like to hang with. Kingston is a crow and Nevermore is a stubborn Tabby.

This was a fun little mystery and I look forward to returning to Port Danbury. Fans of cozy mysteries and small-towns will want to grab Marigolds and Murder. There are five books published in the series. I have already downloaded book two, Carnations and Chaos.

This sounds like a fun one. I’m intrigued why she left such a posh job.

I just one clicked this book as I can’t resist either a freebie.. It’s sounds like it going to be the perfect Halloween read and it’s got a quirky heroine

This is a perfect time of year to read cozies and especially the themes in this one. All times of the year are great for reading your stash of Kindle freebies. It’s what I try to do in my Thrifty Thursday posts, feel free to link up your reviews anytime. Although it seems counterproductive since then we might all find new freebies to read. But writing the reviews of the freebies encourages me to actually get them read more often!

I’m really glad you could enjoy this one. It sounds good. Anne – Books of My Heart

What a great review. I think I’d connect with the unique animals as well. I love the setting. Although, my sister in law owns a flower shop, and oddly, it’s a very high stress job.

    Great review.

Haha! Yeah, novel concept…reading all those free books we download. It sounds like Marigolds and Murder was a good freebie bet though. You have me curious about Pink and this quaint small town. You know I don’t read cozies often but I do enjoy them. 🙂
