In this dark paranormal fantasy, Moonstone & Mugwort by Julie Embleton, we have witches, a cursed heirloom and an enemy to lovers romance with a vampire. Narrated by Caroline Kane, I was quickly pulled into this tale with its mystery, romance and world.

When the past sabotages your present, is it ever possible to salvage your future?

A cursed heirloom, a looming eclipse, and a gifted witch.

Manacled by her family’s curse, Ava O’Keefe is no stranger to contending with paranormal beings, craving the power she protects. But when an enigmatic vampire draws her into his business, the grave consequences should she fail to harness her magick for his demands, promise devastating supernatural chaos.

Moonstone & Mugwort launches the compelling dark fantasy Oath & Legacy series, simmering with supernatural characters challenged by duty and shaped by heritage. As the past sabotages the present, what will become of the future?

fantasy magical paranormal Supernatural

Ava O’Keefe wields or perhaps is cursed by her family amulet and every eclipse, powerful supernatural creatures come to her coastal town of Calnaloch to obtain the amulet and its powers. Ava has warded her home situated over her shop, but this year the danger comes early.

Enzo Paladino is a powerful vampire from an old family who rescues Ava before taking her to his island fortress. It’s warded against danger and Ava is safe, but he wants Ava to perform a ritual that will restore his sister’s abilities.

The tale that unfolds held me captive for several reasons. We have a slow-building romance that begins with trust and food. I confess, I fell for Enzo and delighted in watching their enemies to lovers romance unfold. Next we have curses, dangerous vampires and a coven leader greedy for power.

While the suspenseful plot wrapped up, the story ends on a cliffhanger with hints of things to come. Fans of dark fantasy with spice, magic, witches, vampire and curses will want to add this to their listening pile.

Caroline Kane narrates and brought these characters to life. Her narration enhanced my enjoyment of the story and I hope to continue listening to the Oath & Legacy series.

I love this cover! I’ve ben reading more fantasy and really enjoying it. This sounds really good and definitely like a book I’d enjoy. Adding to my TBR which at this rate might fall over and bury me!

I am on a witchy books reading streak and this would perfectly into that list of TBR. Great review. You’ve piqued my interest as I am a sucker for hate/enemies to love romance.
