Longing for Sin by Kennedy Layne is the second audiobook in the Touch of Evil murder-mystery thriller featuring profiler, Brooklyn Sloane. A former FBI consultant now working in private practice and hunting her own brother, a serial killer who has eluded law enforcement for years. Suspenseful and addictive, I cannot wait for more.

Brooklyn Sloane has left her job as a consultant for the FBI to take on her first cold case in the private sector. Doing so allows her the freedom to work the one case she’s never professionally been allowed to touch – a ruthless serial killer, who just so happens to be her own brother.
Privately, she’s hunting her only sibling, but alongside her team, she’s seeking justice for those without a voice. But there is always the anomaly…
Seven arrests. Seven trials. Seven closed cases.
Brook has discovered one thread that ties them all together. Soon, as the investigation begins to unravel, the evidence all points to one disturbing truth – the real serial killer has never stopped hunting innocent victims, planting evidence, and causing others to pay for his violent crimes. Unfortunately, he isn’t Brook’s only concern. As she divulges deeper into her brother’s reign of torment, she finds herself falling down a dark rabbit hole where she lands on a web of deceit. Who wins is unknown, for their chilling lies can make for very convincing truths.
Brooklyn Sloane has accepted the offer to build her own team with the financial backing of a father in search of answers. In their search for answers, they discover a clever serial killer is the mastermind behind seven arrests, seven trials, and seven closed cases. Can she catch him and free the accused? The case hooked me and never let go.
The case was an intriguing one and we gained perspective from the mastermind as well. Convincing those involved in the seven cases that they had convicted the wrong person wasn’t easy. Brooklyn and her team did a stellar job of gathering clues and narrowing down suspects. Danger, suspense and nail-biting moments kept me engaged.
We learn a little more about her brother and advanced the overall arc of the series while getting to know the new team Brooklyn has surrounded herself with. Layne writes a thrilling serial killer story while keeping it grounded enough to feel realistic.
Daniela Acitelli narrated and has captured Brooklyn and her tenacious personality. The story lends itself well to the audio format. I recommend listening. I cannot wait for the next audiobook in the Touch of Evil series.

I knew this looked familiar! I already have the first one on my TBR and the series must have been in KU at some point if not now, because I have a couple of the later titles in the series as freebies.
