Raven Black returns in another heart-pounding installment of the USA Today best-selling Crossbreed series.

Vampire trafficking is a sinister business, and nobody knows that better than Keystone. After Raven discovers hidden clues in a cold case, the group sets a trap in hopes of catching an elusive criminal. But when the plan backfires, Raven's world is thrown into chaos, and Christian's loyalty is put to the ultimate test.

Buried secrets come to light, and the only thing keeping Raven grounded is her insatiable thirst for vengeance. The stakes are high as they travel to a place where the landscapes are as treacherous as the immortals who live there. This time, there's no room for mistakes.

Will Raven have the courage to tame the violence in her heart before it swallows her whole?

Gaslight by Dannika Dark is the fourth novel in the wildly addictive Crossbreed urban fantasy series. Narrated by Nicole Poole, Dark takes us into the world of vampire trafficking. Dark will test Raven Black, Christen Poe and the other members of Keystone in this nail-biting, heartbreaking and dangerous installment.

Dannika Dark has quickly become a favorite here at Caffeinated. She sits on my shelves alongside Illona Andrews, Anne Bishop, Seanan McGuire. Kevin Hearne and Patrica Briggs.  She like the others delivers unique, well-developed characters that you will come to care for and then casts them into storylines that keep you listening because you need her to fix the crazy messed up situation she has gotten them into!

I’ve loved all of the books in this series, but Gaslight was brilliant and the insight into Christian Poe and our heroine Raven Black pulled at my heartstrings, made me laugh aloud, shudder in acknowledgment and love the feck out of them!

Raven likes sifting through unsolved Breed cases and she stumbles upon some information that has the group looking for a vampire trafficker. These despicable individuals turn young men and women into vampires and sell them. Not since the Megeri series has Dark share such a dark storyline. Christine and Raven are undercover when Raven unexpectedly disappears. From that point on, my heart was racing as I felt the tension building. The places Dark took this storyline and the things she revealed to us about Raven kept me listening.

We witness the members of Keystone coming together to fight for one of their own. I love the different members, personalities, and abilities of this motley crew. While tensions were high as they raced against a ticking clock, we were also given Raven’s story as it was unfolding. I usually like to perform mundane tasks while listening, but that was not the case with Gaslight. I sat at attention like a Meerkat listening for a potential threat. And just when I thought we’ve won let’s go kick some arse, Dark pulled the rug out from under us and we were turning more dark corners and witnessing unspeakable things before we finally got to kick some arse. Dark put me back together again and wrapped up some threads but she did leave some strings for us to follow.

I think what made this and the storyline so incredibly nervewracking and addictive is the characters. Raven reminds me a little of Mercedes Thompson from the series by the same name. All kick-ass on the outside and a little gooey on the inside. Raven has been broken time and time again, but she never gives up and somehow still manages to see the good in others. I’ve known Christian Poe since the Mangeri series and adore this snarky, sexy, candy-loving vampire. He is tested in Gaslight and I felt his desperation and pain.

If you haven’t tried Dannika Dark, the Crossbreed series is a great place to start. I recommend them on audio. Nicole Poole narrates and I could not imagine any of these characters without her voice. In fact, she narrates all of Dark’s series. Go grab your earbuds and check them out.

This book was amazing! I haven’t reviewed yet, but OMG, the book was truly one of my favorites. I felt SO much for Christian! I can’t wait to see what is in store next for Raven, Christian and the Keystone crew. I love them all. Well, Christian most of all!

I finally started this series. I listened to book one and really enjoyed it. I’m on the waiting list at the library for the next book. Glad to see it is still going strong (as if there was any doubt).

This author is good at keeping you on your toes, isn’t she? This is new for me, so am off to check it out on goodreads!

I need to pick up this series, sounds awesome. I have been looking for some great UF, so I will be adding this to my list.

  5. Sophia Rose

Sounds like she really makes you believe in the characters and want their triumph over a tough situation full of external and internal conflict. Mageri here I come this year. 🙂

I LOVED this one!!! Enjoyed getting into Christian’s head some when it comes to Raven. Because I recently binged listened to the Megeri series I kept getting Raven and Silver mixed up in my head. They are very similar IMO. Plus Christian is in both series. I just LOVE Dark and Poole!! I think Christian Poe is my new favorite vampire (previously Bones).

definitely curious for the audio of this one since you love the narrator so much 😀

I thought I had put one of her books on my hold list at the library, and it’s not there. What book did you say I needed to start with when reading this author?

I recommend beginning with Sterling the first book in the Mageri series. You meet one of the characters again in this series. Both are UF, with mage and magic. Her Seven series are wonderful and set in the same world but focus on the wolf-shifters.

I agree with everything you wrote. Definitely for me, it was the darkest, but also the best of the series. I read it first but couldn’t help but buy the audiobook when it came out. I need to find time to listen. Great review!

Five stars for book and narrator. Awesome. Sounds like a wonderful read. I have to get more UF books. I have moved more to thrillers/mystery but a good UF book is great. I will have to add this to my TBR list. Maybe even star it 5/5. Great review. I like that author can get all the voice different for the characters. That is awesome.
