Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother's art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it's in the red.
Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.
The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting...but surely her mother didn't mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red...
The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.
I loved Tiffany Reisz’s Bourbon Theif, The Night Mark, and The Lucky Ones but despite owning the first two Original Sinners novels, I had not yet delved into her erotic fiction, so when the opportunity to review The Red on audio presented itself, I decided to explore her sensual worlds. The story that unfolded was pure, dark erotic fantasy and offered a rather interesting twist.
The story begins as Mona Lisa St. James starts to accept the reality that she will be unable to keep her grandmother’s deathbed wish of keeping her art gallery, The Red open. A mysterious man appears in the gallery and offers her a chance to save the gallery. The terms are simple. All she has to do is agree to submit entirely to this man over the course of one year. In return, he will save her gallery. The tale that unfolds in this standalone novel shares those erotic encounters before ending in a surprising twist.
Dark, sensual and filled with erotic scenes, The Red burned my ears as I listened. You’ll want headphones when listening to this sizzling hot tale. Narrated by Elizabeth Hart, Reisz introduces us to scene after scene of sexual fantasy from pure BDSM to some rather bizarre and taboo fantasies with the mysterious Malcolm. All of the scenes take place in the back of the Red Gallary on a brass bed which belonged to Mona’s grandmother. The room is transformed, and Reisz vividly brings to life the scenes she creates.
I was intrigued by the mysterious man but about halfway through, I felt the stories got a little weird and didn’t think this was much more than hot erotic fiction. However, the ending surprised me as Reisz tied the bed, Mona, and the past together for an exciting twist.
Elizabeth Hart really brought the story to life making both Malcolm and Mona feel genuine. Her tone and pacing lent to the story giving a smooth flow that pulled you into the story.
While I enjoyed the overall storyline, this isn’t quite my cup of coffee and think I will stick to Reiz’s other storylines. For fans of erotic fiction, Reisz weaves a tale that will both shock and delight.

Oh my. Yes! You definitely need headphones for this read! I am sorry this wasn’t your cup of tea; I really enjoyed it. But I can see how it’s not for everyone. Do you still plan on giving her Original Sinners series a go?

I have seen some great reviews for her Original Sinners series but have yet to try it. For some reason I thought she only wrote erotic romance. Will have to check out her other books.
I’m sorry this one didn’t trip your trigger, Kimberly. I have it in audio and this book is actually mentioned in one of the Original Sinners books but I can understand it not being your cup of tea. We’ll have to chat once I get it listened to. 🙂
I am a fan of her Original Sinners books. Thanks for your thoughts on this one, I have been wanting to read it.
Hmmmm, I’m intrigued! I have even read the 50 Shades series or anything labelled as “erotic” fiction. I’ll have to check out her other books.
I’m glad you liked this for the most part even though it’s not your usual cup of tea. It sounds like it would be a interesting read, but maybe not for me. That cover is great though. Fantastic review! 🙂

I loved The Night Mark, and plan to listen to Bourbon Kings and The Lucky Ones but this one just has not appealed to me. I haven’t had a lot of luck with erotic stories. I do most of my listening at work so a book like this would be hard to listen to while people are around even with headphones 🙂
Hahaha I promise I’ll wear headphone Kimberly 😉
Sorry to hear this wasn’t really for you, I’ve been intrigued by this story for quite some time.
for some reason I thought all her work was erotic, great review, looks super steamy. I need to try her other books.
No check out The Night Mark, and The Lucky Ones
Aleen @ Lampshade Reader
Not a huge fan of erotic fiction. Kind of don’t like the premise of exchanging sex to save a business. Thanks for the review!
Agreed, but this is so much more than that.
i’m not much on e-rom Kim but some do intrigue me, this is one of those. Thanks
I like it, but want a strong story weaved around moments.
Appropriate cover. Fits the title and sure can’t miss it.
It is gorgeous.
I haven’t read this one but it sounds interesting, sorry to hear it wasn’t as good as you’d hoped.
Dark erotic story lines are not my cuppa either. So I am going to pass on this one. Thanks for the helpful review.
It wasn’t what I expected,
Whew! Sounds like a sweltering one. I confess that I can check out a little on erotic romance if it doesn’t blend with other story elements. Glad this one had a good twist at the end and a strong narrator for you.
I love a dark romance with erotic elements, this was just too heavy on the bizarre sex scenes.
Haven’t read any erotica this year yet but dang! This one makes me want to read it now!
I do hope you enjoy it, Vanessa.
I’ve heard really good things about her books, but I feel that they would be too sexy for me. You review has definitely confirmed that for me! Glad you still enjoyed it overall, Kim!
I want a strong story with erotic elements this tipped into erotic fantasy but was too heavy and bizarre for me.
Sounds like a hot book. I like that there was a twist at the end. I love when you don’t expect it. Great review. I also looked up some options about audiobooks. I think I might join the audiobook challenge. I already started reading one! Thanks for the info about it.
I hope you join us. Yeah, the twist got me I just wish the middle had more than just sex scenes.
I have to admit, I was wondering what you would this of this story when I saw you were reviewing it. It is much more erotic than anything else I’ve read from her. Reisz does like to push boundaries and I think she did that her. I hope you will still give her Original Sinners series a try one day. It will fall between this and The Bourbon Thief on the sensual range.
Good to know because I really like her and as bizarre as some of it was, she did write it well, I just needed more. The twist was nice.
I’m sorry this one didn’t quite work out for you, Kimberly. Hugs…RO
Thank you Ro. Enjoy your weekend my friend!
It was weird right in the end? Sort of a funny ending that didn’t really sit well
I’m sorry it wasn’t your cup of tea (or coffee, in your case :P), but I get erotic fiction is not for everyone. I personally loved her Original Sinners novels, so this is on my list! I haven’t tried any of her other stories yet, but I definitely will and I hope you keep enjoying them 🙂
I have been told this is very different from The Originals, which I plan to read. I enjoy erotic fictions but this stepped into the bizarre
Sorry it wasn’t what you expected there. I heard about it but I haven’t tried though I have a book by the author somewhere at home that I need to try
I really enjoy her books, this just wasn’t for me.
Interesting. While I love a good romance, I haven’t (yet) ventured into erotic fiction. I feel like I would be walking around with a permanent blush on my faces, especially since you said your ears were burning! The BDSM I think would be okay, but the taboo fantasies makes me uneasy…lol. I’m sorry this one didn’t work as well for you! I need to try one of her other books first.
Do You Dog-ear?
I love a dark erotic fantasy, this just stepped a little far into the realm of fantasy for me.
