There’s no such thing as a little in love…

Elle Wheaten’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust…

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. But now that she’s earned happiness and success, Archer just wants Elle 24/7. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco Earthquake, and Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as…

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along…

yummy alpha ROMANCE friends ADDICTIVE

Since starting the Heartbreaker Bay series I have anxiously been awaiting Elle and Archer’s series. Their snark and chemistry ignited pages despite their obvious efforts to squash the flames. Accidentally On Purpose delivered from the snark to the sparks!

Coffee dates with Accidentally on Purpose

  • First Date: We have watched sparks fly between Archer and Ellen since the Heartbreakers Bay series began. I was curious to see how Shalvis would finally bring them together. Both Archer and Ellen are protectors and perfectionist. They demand more from themselves and I love how Shalvis begins to expose their weaknesses, fears and wants.
  • Second Date: I absolutely love the sexual tension and denial masked by snark and delicious banter. One-line zingers and electricity hang in the air whenever these two are in the same room. These two have a history (not a sexual one) and I enjoyed the telling of their story. Each is totally clueless and believes the other wants to be only friends!  I love that everyone around them has been placing bets on when not if. We even see some meddling from their friends. The author introduces a suspense angle tied to their past, that ultimately makes them face things head on. Despite the unbelievable sexual tension, this is a slow building romance with a few brief hot as hell moments that shake this couple and the reader to the core.
  • Third date: These two are stubborn, or I should say Elle is stubborn. Even when her body is crying out in need she denies her feelings. This led to some delicious banter and tender moments.  Archer is all alpha and I loved his interactions with Elle. The man has patience and even lets her lead.  It was nice seeing him come undone and make himself vulnerable.  A little drama, some heartwarming moments and time with friends filled our final date. While I always knew Shalvis would deliver an HEA, it was swoony fun tagging along for the ride.

Accidentally On Purpose left me grinning. I cannot wait for Chasing Christmas coming in September. The book does offer a sneak peek of  Lost and Found Sisters, book one in Shalvis’s Wildstone series.

And I still haven’t read her, although I own two of her Cedar Ridge books. I really need to read them! Glad this was such a good one and I think I might want to meet Elle and Archer someday soon!

  2. Angie

I feel like I say this every time I comment on one of your reviews, but this is an author I haven’t tried yet but want to. And this book sounds like so much fun. I love it when everyone is in the know but the couple in the book. It usually makes for a hilarious romance.

    Great review.

This one is probably next on my reading list. I have read the previous books and really enjoyed this one and have been looking forward to Elle and Archer their story. I love how Shalvis writes their romances with how they take time to build and we get to know the characters and their friends well. I am curious about the suspense angle in this one. And I am glad there will be another book in this series after this one and she’s starting a new series as well this year. I do my best to keep up with her new releases and hope to go back eventually and read her older books as well.

Yay! I’m always pretty confident that I’m going to enjoy anything that Jill Shalvis writes but I didn’t love her last series – the one that started with Second Chance Summer – as much as the others. This sounds like a fun read!

I’ve seen at least a dozen reviews on this book — all of them, positive, too! Thanks for the post and have a great weekend!!

I’m starting to wonder if I’m growing out of Shalvis’ trademark humorous contemporary romances because I liked this book okay but for most of the book, both Archer and Elle got on my hot damn nerves with all of the games they played and while the chemistry is undeniable, I still wanted to kick them in the ass for most of the book. *shrugs* I think I’ll give Shalvis up completely if Spence ends up with Morgan.

Still, I’m glad that you enjoyed this one. I want to love her stuff still but she’s become hit or miss for me and that makes me sad because I used to love her so much.

Yes I know! I need to get to the book I have of hers on my shelf! I know! 😉

Seriously, I think you just added yet another book to my huge wishlist. I do think I need to make sure this one is read this year.

That’s it! No more Heartbreaker Bay book? I guess I didn’t realize. I thought we’d get what’s-his-name’s (ugh, the owner of the building?). Bummer 🙁 I loved these two together, even with out the backstory so as soon as we got to it, I was all a excited reading their story. Yes, Elle was so freakin’ stubborn!!!! Makes sense with her character, right 🙂

    Great review!!!

Yeeees! Glad you enjoyed this too! I loved the sexual tension and banter (: I didn’t realize this was the last book! I was hoping Spencer would get a story too!
    Lovely review, Kim!

I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! I have heard great things about this author, and this series is on my list for when the mood strikes. Have a wonderful weekend!

Ahh…. I must read this one after reading the Christmas themed books in this series. Besides it sounds light and fluffy just perfect for winter.

Looks like another heartwarming read from this author. I really love that she seems so dependable for a good story. Have a lovely weekend Kim!

You know I agree with everything you said. Elle and Archer were so hot, and I loved how reluctant Elle was to do anything involving Archer. Shalvis always hits that spot, doesn’t she?
    Have a fantastic Friday, Kim!
