Emma Ruiz knows her father is innocent. But that doesn’t help her convince the law—not even smoking hot U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe. When McCabe bangs on her door demanding information about how her cancer-stricken father escaped from federal prison, she’ll have to distract him somehow—it may as well be with a stolen kiss. Landon gets why Emma isn’t saying all she knows. What he doesn’t understand is why he’s putting his reputation, his case, and his badge on the line for a gorgeous person of interest. Much as he’d love to, he can’t let Emma play him. The stakes are higher than either of them can guess. The only way to survive is to trust their instincts. But their instincts want more than one kiss…

One Kiss More is the second book in the U.S. Marshals series by Mandy Baxter. Romantic suspense with banter and a little heat had me quickly caught up and I consumed this in a single afternoon.

We met U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe in the first book, One Night More, when he gave his best friend a hard time for falling in love with an assignment. It was delicious watching him interact with Emma Ruiz. I have a feeling he won’t be teasing his buddy much longer, in fact I think he is about to feel the heat.

Emma and Landon have a shared history of sorts. Her father was arrested and convicted of taking bribes. Emma has always proclaimed her father’s innocents despite his confession. Landon met Emma, then eighteen, during the investigation and subsequent arrest. When her father escapes, Landon is sure Emma knows where he is hiding. Now twenty-four, she is confident, snarky and playing a deadly game. These two together was hilarious, and hot. She gets under his skin even as he tried to get her to open up.

Emma is playing a high stake game and if she wants to survive, she is going to need to trust Landon. She is a strong heroine and I loved how she manages to keep her cool except for maybe when she is around Landon. The case quickly gets complicated and I loved the intense action, incredible sexual tension and watching Landon come undone.

Baxter managed to keep me on edge and I found myself invested in the characters. I love that these two had a prior connection allowing the romantic aspect to feel genuine. Landon is clever and a little cocky and he uses his wits in this case. The case was interesting, bringing in other federal agencies with twists and turns that kept me flipping the pages. Baxter did a wonderful job of balance both the case and romantic aspect.

One More Kiss was a fun romantic suspense that made me laugh and swoon.

Before I got back into paranormal books, romantic suspense was all I pretty much read, besides romance, I haven’t read one for awhile, This sounds like a really good series, I might have to dive back in when I get a chance, Thanks!

I was so sure I commented it this post! No wonder I didn’t get reply..lol Losing my mind…Nothing new.
I really enjoyed the story of the first book, unfortunately I can say the same for the narration 🙁 I moved the series to the “read” list and now I have to see when I can get to it.
Maybe they change the narrator…I can only hope.
    Thank you Kimba 🙂

I love a strong heroine that keeps her cool. And the balance between the mystery and the romance gets another gold star in my book. It’s not really a book I would normally pick up, but I’ll admit that your review has made me curious… Great structure to your thoughts, Kimba, I love following it. It’s addictive! 🙂

Another good one for the romance tbr pile. Us Marshals now I can see some seriously steamy tales about one of them!
You always have the good ones. About bounty hunters, firemen, marines, etc. the perfect characters for any style romance novel!

Oh, I have been meaning to read this. I’m definitely intrigued by the mystery of her father’s escape from prison! And it’s a cute cover and title. 😀

  10. Katherine

This sounds interesting and I’m not sure I’ve read a setup like this. I always like the kind of forced together situations especially when the characters are opposites. Going on the TBR!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah, that little back history made it different and the case was well done, keeping the intensity up

    • kimbacaffeinate

Romantic suspense is one of my very favorite genres Kim, so I’m definitely going to be checking out this one and book one. You know who much I love some snarky banter as well, so I really can’t wait to meet Emma and Landon:)

I so need to try this, heck I just need to read a romantic suspense some time soon! You have me craving them and I just haven’t been able to fit one in yet. Maybe for the TBR challenge I will squeeze on in. 😉

  16. Christy

Okay, if they’re in the first book like that, then I want to read it first. But they sound good! Makes me think a little of the Love Undercover series.

    • kimbacaffeinate

The first book is about another marshal who is Landon’s best friend.

Dude, I swear, sometimes I cringe when I see the comment replies in my mail and notice my original comment. THEY’RE. They are. If they’re in the first book …

Excuse me while I go back to 3rd grade. lol
