He rules the darkest realm. She might be his only light.
Gunther Janssen, powerful ruler of the Dark Realm, is losing the war within. The darkness that fuels his powers is consuming him and soon he will be lost and become a legion of evil. His only hope lies in a woman from his home, the human realm. But how to convince the woman he has fallen in love with that he is worthy of redemption when he doesn't believe it himself?
A dangerously seductive warrior from a nightmare realm asks Aubrey Maguire for help. He claims she's the key to saving him. Admittedly, he's drop dead gorgeous, but beneath the beautiful exterior, darkness looms. And yet, she can see that the undeniably human . . . and heartbroken man is still there inside him.
Somehow she has to rescue him before the darkness takes over and she has to keep from dying in the process.
While each audiobook in the Cursed Kingdom features a complete romance story, the overall story arc and characters we meet along the way have me recommending you listen in the order of their release.
Gunther Janssen assisted our trapped knights and now finds himself the powerful ruler of the Dark Realm, a position he does not want. He is fighting the evil trying to possess him and believes Aubrey Maguire and the knights who escaped may be his only hope. But Gunther served Merliot, and no one is sure he can be trusted.
McQueen did a wonderful job of giving us not only Gunther’s backstory but a closer look at the realm he and his men were trapped in. The romance between Gunther and Aubrey starts slowly because, even though she is drawn to this sexy brute of a man, she, like the others, is unsure of his intentions.
Aubrey finds herself in the dark realm and doesn’t believe she is skilled enough to save him. Twists and turns kept me listening into the wee hours in search of a happily ever after. Summer Roberts has narrated the series and provides both female and male voices effectively. Her performance enhanced my enjoyment of the stories, from her accents to tone.
If you enjoy romances with curses, magic, and different realms, you’ll want to listen to the Cursed Kingdom fantasy series.
