Matty has lost his soul, and it's up to Frankie to find it before his body gives up the fight for survival. But soon his isn't the only life at risk from the soulless condition. The affliction is spreading from Thunderbolt, Georgia, into the beating heart of the French Quarter and right up to Madam Vionette Fontenot's front door.
When Frankie returns to New Orleans in search of answers, she finds herself at the mercy of a god who covets her newfound powers as the guardian of the Alcheyvāhā. He makes it clear he's willing to do whatever it takes to wield her for his own benefit. Even if it costs Frankie everyone she loves.
Frankie is determined to save Matty and restore his soul before his body gives up. She soon learns this affliction isn’t isolated; it isn’t just in Georgia but has seeped into the French Quarter of New Orleans. Like most urban fantasy, I recommend listening to the series in the order of its release because of overall series arcs and relationship dynamics.
We leave Thunderbolt, Georgia, in this story and along with Frankie, Josie, and Kierce and with two of the Suarez brothers to New Orleans. Vi, a mentor of Frankie’s, has been afflicted with the same ailment. If you’ve never been to Nola, this is the perfect setting for souls, ghosts and the supernatural vibes of this tale. Edwards did a splendid job of sharing this unique atmosphere and delivering a suspenseful tale.
Characters and previous threads are woven together in Cheater Slicks. Harrow steps up, and while we learned more about the world and mythology of the gods, the ending left me a little frustrated and eager for the next installment. I am hoping for more relationship development going forward and for seeing our villain get his just desserts.
Candace Joice continues to narrate and give voice to these characters. I enjoy listening and feel she enhances my overall enjoyment of the world, characters and relationships.

Glad you are still enjoying this series. I got really frustrated after the first three books, so I stopped reading. But I hope all goes well for the Marys. It is a really fun and interesting premise.
