What a weather week. We had temps in the 70s before plunging into sub-zero temps, with snow & high winds. My butt was dragging all week from the time change. I don’t think I stayed up past 9 pm on any evening. I am most seriously annoyed at Facebook and Audible. Saturday I got a notice that 18 of my posts on Caffeinated Reviewer’s Facebook page were flagged and removed for copyright infringement. The reporter: Audible Inc. for the audiobook cover images!!! WTH. The fair use act ensures we can use the cover when reviewing. In my twelve years of blogging, I have never heard such twattle. Am I surprised given what authors in KU are going through thanks to Amazon bots? Nope, but if they get me banned from Facebook we will have words. I will have to fight each report through DMCA. Stay Caffeinated.

That’s crazy! The whole idea is people will read your review and then buy the audio on Audible. I would be livid! Hope you get it fixed soon!

  2. MarthaE

I don’t envy your cold! Oh so sorry to hear the problems with your review posts. What a hassle.
I was so tired when I finished my post last night I forgot to link anywhere.
Hope you have a good week and Happy Reading!

  3. Katherine

How frustrating about the copyright flag. That’s just stupid and reminds me why Amazon frequently annoys me. This time change is killing me and I have been dragging all week. Have a great week!

  4. Carla

Unbelievable! You are promoting their books with your reviews and they report you for using the cover image?? Wow. I hope the weather clears up a bit, that will probably help with your energy as well, Kimberly. I hope you have a better week coming up.

  5. Wendy

I hope you get this stopped, and I hope you don’t get banned from Facebook. It’s just nuts that they are doing this as it makes no sense at all.

  6. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Oh, that’s ridiculous! Use of covers, especially when you are reviewing a book, is welcome publicity for publishers, and should be seen as welcome by Amazon and Audible as well, given that it could lead to sales for them. I hope you can sort it out.

Our weather isn’t as extreme as yours has been, but we went from a high of 63 on Friday to a high of 45 today, and below-freezing temperatures tonight. The poor flowers and trees are bewildered.

For some reason, the automated “latest post” plugin isn’t picking up my latest post, so here’s my Sunday Post for today.

That’s crazy about being flagged. Seems to be happening a lot lately for no good reason. I hope it gets squared away soon and you have a good week. 🙂

I also hate the time change, our clocks will go forward next weekend. What a pin with Audible flagging your audiobook covers on Facebook, that makes no sense why they would do that. I hope it gets resolved soon.

  9. Sophie

I had never heard of being forbidden to use book cover images in our reviews! This is insane as it’s more publicity for them!! Let us know what they’ll reply Kimberly! And hugs!

  10. A Voracious Reader

The time change is so fucked up. And so is Facebook. I hate both FB and Twitter lately and would leave them both if I didn’t have so many book friends there. Grrrrr! Audible needs to get its shit together too. That’s just so dumb. Good luck!

  11. Jodie

Oh no Kimberly! I hope you win this battle for all of us. Enjoy your new books and have a better week ahead.

Omg, what a pain in the ass about the audible book covers! Honestly, they are such a mess at Audible. I’m not surprised they are pulling this. And you’re right. Copyright laws say that this is fair use, especially if you are reviewing. Ugh.

  13. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Our weather was pretty much the same, though I don’t think we reached 70 at the beginning, maybe upper 60s. Nice weather then cold again. That’s bizarre about the flags on Facebook, but I guess maybe making sense based on the Amazon thing…but at the same time…the image is being used for reviews to help the authors…it’s messy. But yeah, I can see the aggravation. I hope it all turns out okay!

Nice new reads too! All totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

Ugh, the ridiculousness of the bots these days! I had a couple emails that posts on my blogger site were taken down for something. Since I don’t use that site anymore I didn’t worry about it, I should just take that blog down. But it was stupid reasons for all I could tell. We had the same crazy weather here too! It’s freezing again, after Wednesday when I was sitting outside playing with puppies. I’m ready for spring! Hope you have a better week!

How annoying about Facebook/Audible. Hope it gets sorted out. The time change has been rough this week. Enjoy your books!

  16. Jennifer | Book Den

The flagging bots are making things tough on a lot of platforms right now. I’m so sorry you had so many get flagged. I hope it all smooths out.

  17. Sophia Rose

I’ve had a similar frustration with some of my Pinterest review posts getting taken down this week. Guess someone is busy out there.
I’ve had the opposite happen with my sleep.
Yeah, the weather is all over the place around here, too.

    Have a good week, Kimberly!

  18. Rachel @Waves of Fiction

Omg! I’ve never heard of having issues with using images! I hope you get it resolved. I use my images from Goodreads in my reviews. Hopefully I won’t have a problem. That’s a crazy temp range! We’ve been having nice weather in upper 50s low 60s but we’re supposed to go back to mid 40s this week and lots of rain.

  19. Jen at Introverted Reader

I wonder if it’s because, like me, you use the cover in another image and it’s not just the cover as designed? Does fair use only apply to the original cover? Whatever the case, that’s ridiculous. You’re helping them sell books. Now I’m worried about mine, though I review so inconsistently, I shouldn’t be on anyone’s radar. I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I hope it’s a relatively easy fix and you find a real, reasonable person to help you correct it.

    • Kimberly

All of the ones dinged were of just the cover itself. None of the graphics I did. I was sharing old reviews every 6 hours but turned that off. Some of the ones they dinged were 5 plus years old!!

      • Jen at Introverted Reader

Well then, that should definitely be fair use. I wonder if a lot of other book blogs were flagged? If so, someone is going to have a headache cleaning up that mess. We have a real problem with disinformation and hateful things spreading like wildfire on social media and this is what gets flagged? It makes me want to give up on social media altogether.

  20. Laurel-Rain Snow

Oh, wow, that is horrible about FB flagging and removing images. They have blocked one of my blogs for so-called “abuse,” which they failed to even name, and despite my efforts, have not yet allowed me to post from it on FB! If I didn’t have ways to work around the blocking, I would be even more furious. Good luck with your changing things up with them.

  21. Greg

We got a blizzard here today. And that is awful about the Facebook / Audible stuff. I can’t believe all this hyper aggressive flagging all of a sudden. Absolutely crazy. Anyway I hope they take care of it and that it doesn’t continue.

    Take care this week.
