From the New York Times best-selling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella....
Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level.
Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: When it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn....
Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leader - she’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.
Not even the most sophisticated of Sadie’s superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Erik’s steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed....

It all started with a croissant. When Sadie finds herself stuck in an elevator with the man who curled her toes and ripped out her heart all within twenty-four hours, she is forced to communicate with him. Yeah, so maybe immediately blocking his calls and refusing to talk with him wasn’t the most mature idea she has ever had, but he’s a two-faced snake…..or is he?
While trapped in the elevator, Hazelwood shares what happened between Sadie, an environmental engineer and Erik, a member of their companies’ biggest competition.
I am not usually a fan of the miscommunication trope, but Hazlewood placed our hero and heroine in an elevator and forced them to talk it out, or at least listen, something I have often wanted to do to characters in this genre.
Their meet cute was adorkable, sweet and had me rooting for them from the start. It was kismet, and Erik’s pet..hilarious. I loved their sports talk and while the getting to know you phase quickly morphed into more, I couldn’t help but wonder what tore it all apart. It was a doozy and you can see why Sadie acted the way she did. Clearly she doesn’t handle confrontation, and the elevator was a blessing.
Hazelwood made me laugh, swoon, bang my head in frustration and blush, but she also had me rooting for this couple and hoping for at least a happily ever-someday.
My only gripe, I wish it was a full-length story, but the author made it work and I quickly devoured it. I am looking forward to the next audio, Below Zero. These are all audio firsts, but will release as ebooks in the summer.
Meg Sylvan narrates and did a splendid job of capturing all the firsts and emotions of both Sadie and Erik. Her male voices aren’t overly gruff and her voice for Sadie felt spot on.

I do like the fact that they talk things out while in that elevator. I will have to pick these up at some point.

I hadn’t heard about this one but it does sound like a good read.

Yes I’m enjoying these and they could be 5 heart reads if they were full length I believe, with more development.
