Supernatural Security Force Boxed Audio Set
Kiss of Death (Supernatural Security Forces #1)
We meet drag racing champion Gem Hawkins, a shape-shifting fae when she learns her father an agent was murdered. Determined to find his killer, she gives up her illegal racing and joins the agency, but first she needs to make it through the academy.
This was an excellent start to this urban fantasy series. I liked Gem from the start and along the way we meet friends and see her tested. Gem is tenacious, observant and a genuinely good person. She breaks rules, but never at the expense of hurting others.
From the start, I loved the characters. Gem’s grandmother is a hoot and her one-liners had me rolling. I loved the snark and colorful language which suited Gem’s personality.
The academy was interesting, from the different types of paranormal creatures to the tidbits we picked up about the supernatural world and Gem’s abilities, which she keeps to herself.
The book takes us through her graduation test with plenty of suspense and twists. She suffers a setback, which prepares us for the next installment but also forms an alliance. The overall story arc regarding the murder of Gem’s father continues.
The author easily pulled me in, and the story had great pacing. It’s perfect for audio and Chelsea Stephens does an excellent job of bringing Gem and the world to life.
Knock Em Dead (Supernatural Security Forces #2)
The storyline is set in New Orleans, and I was delighted to leave the academy with Gem. Gem’s been demoted to a cleaner and we learn about the council, met her new boss and watch Gem get herself in trouble to help a level six demon in her last trimester.
I am loving this series. Gem is not a follower and has difficulty following rules, but her heart is in the right place. In this installment, she is juggling a baby demon while struggling with her attraction to a Nephilim and an alpha cougar shifter. Both who she thinks have expressed interest in her. LOL
Someone or something is opening up portals and summoning demons. Gem needs to find out who and how it involves her dad’s murder.
Hildenbrand continues to flesh out the supernatural world hiding amongst the humans. The characters Gem is surrounded by are complex and unique. We have Jax (our shifter and demon adopted baby daddy) then there is Adrik (Gem’s boss & Nephilim) who is dreamy but secretive. The baby demon who dances and sings to Fergalicious but also likes to eat flesh. Miles, her buddy from the academy who is a loyal friend and Gem’s grandmother, who is stuck as a flying bug and funny as hell.
The overall series arc involving the murder of her father continues to grow and delivers plenty of action, danger and developments. Meanwhile, the relationships and Gems’ own growth pull you into the story delivering laughs, swoons and more.
The action never stops and wait until you find out what happened to Tony, Gem’s friend from the academy.
I am grateful this is available as a boxed set because the cliff-hangers are killer.
Death’s Door (Supernatural Security Force #3)
The story picks up right where Knock Em Dead ended and Gem is in serious trouble. Someone is opening portals and summoning high level demons. People are being attacked and the supernatural realm is in danger of being exposed. Gem is finding it harder to keep her own secrets and her baby demon safe.
The author continues to provide pieces to the mystery surrounding the portals and the death of Gem’s father, but the closer Gem gets, the greater the danger. Gem suspects someone on the Nephilim council is involved, but who to trust?
We see more development with the romance and I am one hundred percent team Adrik. Gem’s inner dialogue regarding Adrik and Jax is hilarious and filled with sexual innuendo.
Action-packed from beginning to end and my time spent listening is flying. Our case ends after a climatic scene. It looks like Gem has decided in the love department as well, but it’s not confirmed. I am diving into the final audiobook.
Dead to Rights (Supernatural Security Force #4)
Gem has finally gotten what she wants, but the trouble is far from over. Gem’s first day on the job as detective doesn’t go well, but she has Milo as a partner. Supernaturals are protesting after the recent demon attacks and the two of them are assigned to go undercover. Someone (spoilers) is still turning sups into demons and Gem and the others soon find themselves in trouble.
Gem love choice is both exciting and heartbreaking. Can they ever truly have a happily ever after? The sexual tension and moments between them stood out against the battle to stop the demon maker. Things are done to protect Fergie thanks to alliances Gem made in the beginning of this series. Two more of her friends are turned and Hillenbrand leaves us with another cliffhanger.
Dead End is the next book in this series and not yet published. I do hope it’s brought to audio.
Narration by Chelsea Stephens
Chelsea Stephens narrates the series and has become the voice of Gem, gran and more. Her male voices are well done and each unique. She captures the snarky personality of Gem and enhances Hildenbrand’s tale. This series is perfect for audio listening.
