Hill Gamble is a model lawman: cool and collected, with a confident swagger to boot. Too bad all that Texas charm hasn't gotten him anywhere in his personal life, especially since the only girl he ever loved has always been off-limits. But then Hill is assigned to investigate her father's mysterious death, and he's forced back to the town--and the woman--he left behind.

When Hill left Loveless, he broke Kody Lawton's already battered heart. And now that he's working on her father's case, avoiding him is impossible. She can handle Hill and her unwanted feelings--until he puts his life on the line to protect her. Suddenly, Kody realizes that Hill could be taken away from her...for good.

Small-town ROMANCE SUSPENSE Family

Unforgiven by Jay Crownover is the second novel in the Loveless, Texas series and I knew from book one and the tension between these two it would be one heck of a ride. Danger, twists and lots of heat in Loveless, Texas kept me up past my bedtime!

Kody Lawton and Hill Gamble have some history. They grew up together. He secretly loved her, but she had to be off limits. It was complicated and heartfelt. Crownover did the backstory justice, while keeping us in the present as sparks fly and these two stubborn, flawed characters come to terms. Yee-ha!

Kody’s Dad was murdered and Hill’s assigned to the case since he has a history with the people of Loveless. The last person he needs to interview is Kody. I loved the tension and the thoughts the author made us privy too. As the case unfolds, twists arise, and the wicked chemistry between them sizzles.

Crownover does an excellent job fleshing out her characters, flaws and all, but despite Kody’s Daddy issues and trust issues, the girl had some serious maturity issues. I have a feeling she may rub some folks the wrong way.

If you like small-town romances with a touch of suspense, character growth, humor and heat, you’ll want to settle in with Unforgiven. While each book works as standalone, it would be a shame to miss Case Lawton’s story in Justified. There is a prequel too with brother Crew Lawton, and it’s calling my name!

Unforgiven by Jay Crownover brings sizzling chemistry to this small town romance. #LovelessTexas Share on X

I was one that Kody rubbed my fur the wrong way, but I loved the story overall. Crew has a prequel? I’m on that!
