Fresh off my Voodoo-tastic vacation to New Orleans, I find myself presented with the first test of my newly discovered magic. There’s been a murder in the neighboring town of Pine Shoals and the victim has decided she’s not cut out for the spectral life and needs a gentle push into the Otherworld.
As it turns out, conjuring some magic and telling a ghost to ‘go towards the light’ isn’t quite good enough, and now the hysterical ghost is stuck in some kind of limbo land.
It’s up to me to solve her murder before the poor ghost goes insane—or, becomes demon food. Whichever happens first.
Reapers creepers.
Big Ghosts Don’t Cry by Danielle Garrett is the fourth paranormal cozy mystery in the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery series. Wowzers, this was a fun one with an unusual ghostly problem, movement on the relationship front and more.
These audiobooks may be under five hours but they all pack a punch, and Big Ghosts Don’t Cry was no exception. When a woman is murdered, and appears before Scarlet she just wants to crossover. With Scarlet’s new found ability it should be easy-easy, but she soon learns you shouldn’t mess with powers you don’t understand. Now the ghost is trapped in limbo and unless she can cross them over, she may just have opened a portal for demons to enter our world!
Garrett pulls me in every time! I love Scarlett and her trio of ghostly sidekicks. Scarlett doesn’t have a manual on her abilities and is learning as she goes. Each experience and case brings forth new information.
After the big case in New Orleans, we see a switch in the storyline’s direction and it’s one I found refreshing. This story was more balanced than the previous books. The author wove the murder-mystery, Scarlet’s abilities, growth, and her growing relationship with Lucas through the entire story, rather than breaking them into chunks. This made for a more cohesive and entertaining storyline. I hope the pattern continues!
If you are looking for a cozy mystery with paranormal elements, snark, quirky characters and fun you’ll want to check out the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery series. While each book contains a new mystery, they are best listened to in the order of their release.
Big Ghosts Don't Cry by Danielle Garrett delivered up an intense murder-mystery with an interesting twist as our heroine tests her abilities. #CozyMystery #Paranormal #Audio Click To Tweet

I really need to try a new cozy series. I should add this to my listening list, but I am getting so far behind now with being back at work and trying to balance it all. Argh!

I enjoyed the way this one upped the ante a bit for Scarlett in both her love life and her new magic skills.

I tried the first book in this series and I agree, definitely a cutsey type of ghost/mystery.
