Every Dark Corner is the nail-biting new thriller from Sunday Times bestseller Karen Rose, and Book 3 in the Cincinnati series, following on from Closer Than You Think and Alone in the Dark.
When FBI Special Agent Griffin "Decker" Davenport wakes from his coma, he is desperate to find the missing children he knows are in danger. At the end of his last investigation, when he thought it was all over and justice had been served, he discovered that not everyone had been rescued, but he was shot before he was able to tell anyone.
Special Agent Kate Coppola has recently moved to Cincinnati. She says she's chasing a promotion but she's actually running away from heartache. She's found the recordings from Decker's time undercover and has been at his side in the hospital while she tries to put together the pieces of the crime he was investigating—and what connection it has to his own mysterious past.
When someone tries to kill Decker in his hospital bed, he and Kate realise that the children are not the only ones whose lives are threatened, and that they must stop at nothing to hunt down the perpetrators. And danger is waiting in every dark corner.
Told from multiple perspectives, EVERY DARK CORNER, the third book in Karen Rose’s Cincinnati series delivered both suspense and passion that will keep you reading past your bedtime. Rose continues our journey into the dark world of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and drug dealings.
The case in EVERY DARK CORNER is deeply entwined with the previous story ALONE IN THE DARK, and for that reason, I recommend at least these two books be read in order. Each contains its own romance, but the case bleeds into this one as do our hero and heroine. Oh heck, read the Cincinnati series in order. They are superb.
At the end of ALONE IN THE DARK, undercover FBI Special Agent Griffin “Decker” Davenport was injured, and our story begins with him in a medically induced coma. Special Agent Kate Coppola has kept a bedside vigil. Recently transferred, she prefers knitting by his bedside to her cold hotel room. As she knits, she listens to the tapes Agent Decker had hidden in the linings of his coat.
The case is complicated and had my palms sweating as I read. In the previous book we took down a human trafficking operation, but we soon learn there are ties to kiddie porn and drug trafficking. Decker holds valuable information that places him in danger. The Professor, our villain, is cleaning up any loose threads and bodies are piling up at the morgue. It was intense, dark and at times difficult to read. One of the things I like about this author is that she provides realistic information and sheds like on some of the darker aspects of the criminal world.
Rose impressed me with her ability to give us all sides of the story. We get perspectives from Kate, Decker, the Professor and a victim whose story will keep you on edge. Their voices are genuine, and I slipped from one to the next without feeling pulled from the main storyline. The interaction between the different characters we have met since book one, CLOSER THAN YOU THINK, delivered friendship, banter, side threads and heart to this compelling tale. I am fond of the men from the Ledger, the local newspaper, and the men and women of the FBI.
The romance was wonderfully done. Kate feels a connection to Decker she cannot immediately explain, and it felt genuine given her history. Some moments made me laugh out loud from food talk to awkward kisses. The romance tethers you to all that is right with the world as Rose takes us into these dark corners.
EVERY DARK CORNER is perfect for fans of romantic suspense who want a balanced tale.

I really like the sound of this story. I”m going to add it to my TBR pile.

I am glad, I really enjoyed these 🙂
Lily B
These do sound like they have a lot going for them, the dark ,gritty part of it leaves me both curious and a bit scared. It doesn’t sound like an easy read at all
kimbacaffeinate
The author is great and allows you to slip right into the story.

As a romantic suspense junkie, I’ve been a fan of Karen Rose for years, but for some reason I’ve put her books on a back burner. She’s a courageous author not afraid to focus on topics we don’t want to talk about, but sadly exist in today’s society. Kiddie porn and human trafficking are heinous crimes. Your review is amazing! Hugs…
kimbacaffeinate
Thanks Ro. I really enjoyed this mini-series and fully intend to try more.
Lorna
I could have sworn I had read her before but now I am not sure after a visit to Amazon. I like that this takes place in Cincinnati because I lived over fifty years 80 miles from there and visited a lot over the years. I noticed another series by her set in Baltimore- and I live less than half an hour from there. So both series interest me. Great review!
kimbacaffeinate
I think you mentioned that when I reviewed one of the previous books. I hope you read the Cincinnati series
Lorna
I think that was for the Hollows series. I remember writing that, just wasn’t sure to whom 🙂
Bookworm Brandee
Okay, okay…you’ve twisted my arm. 😉 I’ll look for this series at my library. Hopefully I can find all her backlist but this series is particular has me intrigued. 🙂
kimbacaffeinate
Her backlist is huge! LOL I want to read them as well, but will be picking up new releases as they publish.
The Bibliophile Babe
Okay, this is one I need. Adding to the TBR! Thanks for the great review!
kimbacaffeinate
Sweet. Happy reading!

This one is a thick book for a mystery. Like from the sound of it, it seems as complex and Sheldon or Ludlum?
Happy Valentine’s Day!
kimbacaffeinate
All three books in the Cincinnati series have been 600-700 pages. Yes, you get a full case with all sides and perspectives, but you also get a community, friendship, and a complete romance.
Heidi
These books sound so thrilling. I wish I was in the mood for something dark, but I still can’t go there right now. Hope you have a fantastic VD.
kimbacaffeinate
I understand. I did and hope your VD was wonderful as well.
Mary Kirkland
I love thrillers and this sounds really good.
kimbacaffeinate
Me too, and yes I hope you try one of her books.
Angela Adams
I’ve read several Karen Rose novels, and they’ve always been a “page turner.” Thanks for the post.
kimbacaffeinate
Yay, glad you enjoy her. I am planning to read more.
Quinn's Book Nook
I read a few Karen Rose romantic suspense novels years and years ago and really enjoyed them. But I haven’t read any in so long. I keep seeing such good things about this one, though, so I should look into her books.
I remember her books being kind of dark, though, and I haven’t been in the right mood for that.
kimbacaffeinate
The cases were dark, but I did find with the Cincinnati series that the friendships and romance helped balance the light and dark.
Rowena
This is the second review of this book that I’ve seen this week and another fabulous one, at that. This author has been on my radar for years but I’ve never tried her stuff (I keep getting distracted with other shiny books). I need to fix that, pronto. Great review, Kim!
kimbacaffeinate
I really hope that you do Rowena. I will be continuing to read her books.
Tyler H. Jolley
Sounds great. The timing is perfect for today. Happy Valentine’s day, Kimba!

I must read this author this year! This one sounds intense…and I can see that I definitely must read the others first, as you recommend.
Thanks for sharing.
kimbacaffeinate
Yes, I think you would enjoy this author Laurel.
Sophia Rose
I love how she gives all sides to the story, too. It stays intense with lots of twists even with the villain’s angle. I need to go back and get her backlist at some point.
kimbacaffeinate
Oh I agree on the backlist. It is huge though and every book is 600 + pages Eep!
Deborah Haupt
Its been a while since I read her and wow I didn’t know she had a rom-suspense series going. Thanks Kim Great review and hearing a victim’s POV is one that always gets my heart rate up!
kimbacaffeinate
Yes, and I am so happy I began them!
Ailyn Koay
whoa… someone tried to tied up loose ends a bit too well here. hope he’s okay. and they catch the naughty/ evil mastermind soon
kimbacaffeinate
Exactly. This villain is ruthless.
blodeuedd
Sounds good!
kimbacaffeinate
It really was. I will be continuing with this author.
Kathryn
This was my first intro to the series and I just adored Kate. I have since listened to #1 and have #2 to read.
kimbacaffeinate
I am so glad you enjoyed it and then read one and two. The novels are huge, but so well done.
