Most Anticipated Releases for 2016

I thought I would share a list of some of my most anticipated releases for 2016. These are all must haves. Books that have me giddy with anticipation and ones that I know I will devour on release day.

Caffeinated’s Most Anticipated Releases for 2016
Morning Star
by Pierce Brown
Series: Red Rising Trilogy
Published by: Random House
Genres: Fantasy, Dystopian
Audible
Goodreads

Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author. Golden Son totally changed the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level. Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star. Born a lowly Red in the mines of Mars, Darrow lost his beloved wife to the treacherous Gold overlords. Vowing to fight for the future that his wife believed in, Darrow joins a secret revolutionary group and is remade into a Gold so that he can infiltrate the ruling class and bring them down from the inside. Now, after years of hiding amongst the Golds, Darrow is finally ready to declare open revolution and throw off the chains of oppression. Nothing in Darrow’s world has been easily won, and this final fight will be the most harrowing of all

This trilogy has literally rocked my world. Epic world-building, an engaging plot and a hero unlike any other the Red Rising trilogy is one I recommend on a daily basis. While categorized as young adult, Brown’s brilliant novel is one for all ages.

The City of Mirrors
by Justin Cronin
Series: The Passage
Published by: Hachette
Genres: Horror
Purchase: Amazon
Goodreads

In life I was a scientist called Fanning.

Then, in a jungle in Bolivia, I died.

I died, and then I was brought back to life...

Prompted by a voice that lives in her blood, the fearsome warrior known as Alicia of Blades is drawn towards to one of the great cities of The Time Before. The ruined city of New York. Ruined but not empty. For this is the final refuge of Zero, the first and last of The Twelve. The one who must be destroyed if mankind is to have a future.

What she finds is not what she's expecting.

A journey into the past.

To find out how it all began.

And an opponent at once deadlier and more human than she could ever have imagined.

I have been waiting and waiting since 2012 for the final book to this epic trilogy. The Passage is beautiful, horrifying, monstrous in size and yet never long enough!

The Curse of Tenth Grave
by Darynda Jones
Series: Charley Davidson
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon
Goodreads

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the tenth installment of Darynda Jones' New York Times bestselling paranormal series. Part-time PI and full-time grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister's hair before she wakes up? But, "How do I trap not one god, but three?" was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension. But one of them stole her heart a very long time ago. Can a god of absolute death and destruction change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiance lie with his brothers? Those are just some of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl on the run for her life, a man who's been framed for murdering a woman who is still very much alive, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we're saved. If not, well...

This is the series that makes me laugh and lose whole days. After the events  of book nine I cannot wait to get my hands on The Curse of the Tenth Grave.

Feedback
by Mira Grant
Series: Newsflesh #4
Published by: Hachette
Genres: Dystopian
Purchase: Amazon
Goodreads

FEEDBACK is a full-length Newsflesh novel which overlaps the events of New York Times bestseller Mira Grant's classic Feed and follows a group of reporters covering the Democratic side of the Presidential campaign.
There are two sides to every story... Mira Grant creates a chilling portrait of an America paralyzed with fear. No street is safe and entire swaths of the country have been abandoned. And only the brave, the determined, or the very stupid, venture out into the wild. Step inside a world a half-step from our own in this novel of geeks, zombies, politics and social media.

I am so excited about this full-length novel it is ridiculous. Just mentioning it makes my stomach flip-flop in anticipation. I love the Newsflesh world and plan to devour it.

The Visitor
by Amanda Stevens
Series: Graveyard Queen
Published by: Harlequin
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon
Goodreads

My name is Amelia Gray. I'm the Graveyard Queen. Restoring lost and abandoned cemeteries is my profession, but I'm starting to believe that my true calling is deciphering the riddles of the dead. Legend has it that Kroll Cemetery is a puzzle no one has ever been able to solve. For over half a century, the answer has remained hidden within the strange headstone inscriptions and intricate engravings. Because uncovering the mystery of that tiny, remote graveyard may come at a terrible price. Years after their mass death, Ezra Kroll's disciples lie unquiet, their tormented souls trapped within the walls of Kroll Cemetery, waiting to be released by someone strong and clever enough to solve the puzzle. For whatever reason, I'm being summoned to that graveyard by both the living and the dead. Every lead I follow, every clue I unravel brings me closer to an unlikely killer and to a destiny that will threaten my sanity and a future with my love, John Devlin

I love this series set in low-country, with its rich details, suspenseful plot and tough as nail protagonist. There hasn’t been a release since 2012 and I am giddy with anticipation.

Marked in Flesh
by Anne Bishop
Series: The Others
Published by: Penguin
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon
Goodreads

For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community... Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically. But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

Call me crazy but I love the brilliant world and characters of the Others series. This is a series where I go a little fangirl and own all of the books on audio, hardcover and eBook.  So yep, I need this baby now.

The City of Mirrors sounds really awesome. I always hear great things about Justin Cronin, but just haven’t gotten around to reading anything by him yet. Maybe I’ll start with this one when it comes out.

OOh nice! Definitely cannot wait for 10th Grave…even though I still need to read 7th Grave 🙁 (I am shameful)

Also cannot wait for Marked in Flesh…though, again, still gotta read the second one! Ever behind, but I’m trying to devote the early part of this year to getting caught up with some series along with the occasional review book as they come in!

Most of the books on your list are on my TBR pile of “series I really do want to read at some point in my life but have yet to do so” 😀 I really hope all of these books end up being everything you want and more.

I just downloaded the Bishop book a couple of days ago, but first I have to finish listening to Vision in Silver. These books you mention sound wonderful, can’t wait to read your thoughts 🙂

  10. Jenny

These sound awesome. I haven’t heard of any of them but there are a few I’m adding right away to my Goodreads list.
