Last year I was impressed with Delia’s Shadow the first book in the Delia Martin series by Jamie Lee Moyer. I was captivated by its 1917 San Francisco setting, paranormal mystery and fleshed out characters. A Barricade in Hell delivered an intense paranormal mystery with dark elements and charismatic characters that quickly drew me back into this world.
Grim Shadows by Jenn Bennett
I am in love with the naughty, charismatic Magnusson brothers. After I finished reading this Carmel @ Rapid Reads tweeted me and asked, “Who was your favorite brother? Winter or Lowe?” I was stumped because I loved them both for different reasons. Lowe has a boy like quality to him that appealed to me, where as Winter is more controlled. If you have not yet read a Jenn Bennett novel….commit her name to memory because she is now an auto-buy for me. Grim Shadows is the second novel in her Roaring Twenties series and it blends several genres to create a tale that will keep you spellbound and a romance that will make you swoon.
Miss Mabel’s School for Girls by Katie Cross
I first learned about Miss Mabel’s School for Girls on Candace’s Book Blog where I mistakenly confused the author with another. Can you guess who? Therefore, when Katie Cross asked if I would like to review the first book of the Network series I could not help, but say yes. Miss Mabel’s School for Girls was a delightful, magical witch tale with moments of darkness and an overall plot that already has me intrigued.
Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts
Shadow Spell is the second book in the Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy by Nora Roberts and once again we are back in Ireland as the descendants of the Dark Witch and their friends work to defeat the evil sorcerer named Cabhan. This is not a series to be read out of order, although Roberts does an excellent job of recapping. Mini review: Paranormal as only Roberts can do from spells to swoon-worthy kisses.
The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon
I was immediately drawn to the synopsis for The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon. It shares a tale about a mother and daughter bond, loss, grief and wishes that should never be granted. A farm shrouded with a tragic history, a superstitious rural community, and a mother with secrets all added to this atmospheric tale. Mini review: A spine-tingling, hair raising thriller. McMahon held me captive and made me shiver.
