I was so excited when I received an audio copy of Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. The synopsis intrigued me, and I dove into the audio with such anticipation. Despite a stellar performance by narrators, Sheetal Sheth, and Heather Lind, the overall stories feel flat for me, making the story unmemorable.
The Betrayed by Heather Graham
The Betrayed by Heather Graham is another exciting murder mystery laced with paranormal elements in the Krewe of Hunters series. Each book works well as a standalone and offers a mystery with a side dish of romance. The Betrayed offers a chilling murder mystery in Sleepy Hollow and is perfect for as a Fall read. I loved the history, ghost and creepy murder setting. The romance was low heat with a slow build.
Sisters’ Fate by Jessica Spotswood
After the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in Star Cursed, I was anxious to dive into Sisters’ Fate the final Cahill Witch Chronicles novel by Jessica Spotswood. What a nail-biting journey this has been as we followed three sisters, all witches, prophesied about living in one of the most oppressive periods. Sisters’ Fate was gripping, dark, and at times pulled on the reader’s heartstrings but it was equally powerful and uplifting.
Night Unbound by Dianne Duvall
I was excited to begin reading Night Unbound the fifth Immortal Guardian novel by Dianne Duvall. This action packed paranormal suspense series has a unique twist on vampires and immortals with heated swoon-worthy romances. In Night Unbound, we get Zach and Lisette’s story wrapped in danger and a strengthening of the Immortal Guardians.
Ghost Layer by Robin D. Owens
I enjoyed Ghost Seer the first book in this new series by Robin D. Owens and was excited to dive into Ghost Layer. While Clare Cermak, the protagonist, made me a tad nervous, and it reeked of insta-love I was excited about the mystery, talking spirit dog and possibilities this series held. Unfortunately the character’s actions pulled me from the overall mystery and left me disillusioned.
