Ice by Lauren Carr is the first novel in the Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series. After reading another blogger’s review, I one-clicked and while looking for books that qualified for the #HoHoHoRAT I discovered it on my Kindle. Murder, cold cases and a secret club of retired law enforcement meeting in the library delivered a stellar story.
River Bodies by Karen Katchur is the first novel in the Northampton County mystery series. Multiple POVs, childhood flashbacks and a suspenseful buildup provided an entertaining mystery in Portland, Pennsylvania, a small river town that borders New Jersey, where neighbors keep their heads down and look the other way.
A Bone to Pick by Melinda Leigh is the second novella in the Widow’s Island mystery suspense series written with author Kendra Elliot. We are back on Widow’s Island and this time the focus is on Deputy Tessa Black. When an artistic newcomer is found dead, Tessa along with the help of Park Ranger Logan Wilde search for a murderer on the island.
A Merciful Silence by Kendra Elliot is the fourth novel in the Mercy Kilpatrick series and the darkest and strongest novel in the series to date. When the bones of a family are discovered after flooding, Mercy is reminded of a similar murder that happened over twenty years ago, but that killer is in jail. Mercy will be tested as loved ones are placed in danger and the body count continues.
Set on Widow’s Island off the Pacific Northwest. Close to the Bone by Kendra Elliot is the first of four scheduled novellas. Each book contains a murder-mystery and there is an overall arc about a missing person from twenty years ago. From the characters to the island history I quickly slipped into this series.
