A serial killer haunts Orange County, leaving his victims naked and buried in shallow graves with a single, chilling clue: a pillow..
This high-profile case has everyone vying for glory—the LAPD, OC Sheriff's Department, and the California Bureau of Investigation. But young FBI Agent Constantine 'Con' Striker wants nothing to do with it. Fresh off the high of capturing the Ashley Madison Killer, Con's personal life is in shambles. His mother is unraveling, crying out for his long-deceased father, and his twin sister Valerie has mysteriously vanished.
As the body count rises, Con is thrust into a harrowing investigation that threatens to destroy him. The Sandman isn't just taking lives; he's targeting everything and everyone Con holds dear. In a race against time, Con must confront his deepest fears and the twisted mind of a killer determined to steal more than just lives—he's after Con's very soul.
Tell Me Where the Sandman Sleeps is the gripping prequel to the bestselling Tell Me Where She's Buried. Prepare yourself for a heart-pounding journey into the dark corners of obsession, love, and loss.
This was a short audiobook, just around four hours, but it offered an addictive mystery as we got to know Striker. His sister has gone missing, his mom is suffering from dementia, and someone is leaving dead victims naked with a pillow as a calling card.
Striker’s sister Val calls and says their mom needs to be in assisted living and demands he come to their home. When Striker gets there, Val is missing. As he hunts for the Sandman, he suspects Val might be one of his victims. Overworked, stressed over his family, and with a fiancée he isn’t spending any time with, Striker is soon burning candles at both ends. All of which leads to a major meltdown. The tale that unfolded was gritty, intense and kept me listening late into the evening. In fact, I devoured this in one sitting.
Johanna Parker & Jonathan Strait narrate and did a splendid job of giving voice to these characters. There are currently five books published in the series, and while parts of this wrapped up, we are left not knowing what happened to Val, Striker’s sister. That thread continues in book one, Tell Me Where She Is Buried, coming to audio in October 2025 with a different narrator. I cannot wait!

Glad you enjoyed this one. I’m enjoying some of the shorter listens I’ve had lately as well. Great review!

The fact that the author has a photo with a golden retriever is a decided point in his favor. That said this looks great! I’ve been struggling with my reading so short and fast paced is exactly what I’m looking for!
Nadene
Gritty and intense, the exact kind of mystery I like.

I think if I was murdered, I would be happy if my killer made sure I was comfy with a pillow. Just kidding. I do love a good prequel though.
