We are back at the Jumble, a rustic resort located in the Other’s territory. The resort on Silence Lake is run by human, Vicki DeVine. It’s the other’s version of Halloween, called Trickster Night, and human guests have arrived to experience the fun. Only things turn deadly when Crowbones’ appears, the Crowgard’s version of the bogeyman. A suspenseful mystery with characters I love that kept me listening past my bedtime.

In this engrossing and gripping fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, an inn owner and her friends must find a killer—before it’s too late.…
Crowbones will gitcha if you don’t watch out!
Deep in the territory controlled by the Others—shape-shifters, vampires, and even deadlier paranormal beings—Vicki DeVine has made a new life for herself running The Jumble, a rustic resort. When she decides to host a gathering of friends and guests for Trickster Night, at first everything is going well between the humans and the Others.
But then someone arrives dressed as Crowbones, the Crowgard bogeyman. When the impostor is killed along with a shape-shifting Crow, and the deaths are clearly connected, everyone fears that the real Crowbones may have come to The Jumble—and that could mean serious trouble.
To “encourage” humans to help them find some answers, the Elders and Elementals close all the roads, locking in suspects and victims alike. Now Vicki, human police chief Grimshaw, vampire lawyer Ilya Sanguinati, and the rest of their friends have to figure out who is manipulating events designed to pit humans against Others—and who may have put Vicki DeVine in the crosshairs of a powerful hunter.
Narrated by Alexandra Harris, Crowbones By Anne Bishop is the third book in the World of the Others and the eighth book in the Others series. By far one of my favorite fantasy series, I devour this on audio and collect the hardcover novels to read again and again.
Just for a recap to those new to the series; this series takes place in an alternative North America called Thaisia. Here humans are not the dominate species. Most live in cities and towns outside of terra indigene territory or wild country. But some choose to work and live close to the vampires, shape-shifters and other things that go bump in the night. What they don’t do is cause harm to the others or break their laws…but someone is committing murder and the others and humans they call friends will not rest until they solve it. The Elders are aware… something that should send shivers down your spine.
Gather round children and I will tell you the tale of Crowbones who takes care of naughty little crows. When a human dresses up like Crowbones and leaves something with a dead body, they are soon found dead, but then a member of the Crowgard is also murdered. This sends the others and humans into a tizzy. The town is shut down, and no one goes in or out.
I loved spending time with Vicky and the others at the Jumble. Despite the stress of the murders and the real Crowbones lurking about, it was fun to see the gang gathered. We even hear from a Wolfguard and his mate. We get points of views from Vicky, Julian, Ilya, and Grimshaw and some others, including the mysterious Them.
Some of my favorite moments involved books and the Elders and watching for sparks between some of our humans. Once again, we are reminded of the ugly side of humanity. It gives listeners a moment to ponder. How would the others see you?
It was a clever whodunnit and a reminder of how the others dole out punishment. As always, I listen to the book first, then dive in for a re-read. on release day. Alexandra Harris does such a fantastic job with the narration, giving an authentic voice to each character, human and non-human alike.
I love the world Anne Bishop has created and hope we see more of this fantastic world. The series has it all; romance, suspense, mystery, fantasy, humor, and friendships. If you haven’t yet slipped into this world, I recommend you do! It’s the type of series that calls for a sick day on release day.

I thought that this book was great! I loved being back at The Jumble with Vicki and the gang and this mystery kept me guessing. I will probably do a re-read via audiobook at some point.

I make a big event of reading and listening to this series, too. Loved the Others version of a Locked Room mystery. 🙂

I really love this world and series. I’ll have to try the audio sometime but this is one I have always read the ebook.

How is it that the humans still don’t get it? LOL. This was a fabulous entry for the series and I’m so glad the author picked the series back up. I loved seeing Vicki’s sand and using her Grimshaw blood! The mystery was a good one.

I just went to Audible to order it from your page and it says I had already ordered it. Sorry. This is probably my very favorite fantasy-excluding my obsession with Dannika Dark’s books. The series is just so unique. Glad you loved it!

LOL, I pre-ordered it on audio as soon as it popped up. My hardcover comes today, so I totally get it…hehe.
