Sensitive Claire Connolly must journey to another world in the electrifying fourth installment of Chloe Neill’s post-apocalyptic urban fantasy series.

It’s been a year since the Veil between the human world and the world Beyond was torn apart, and war began again. Sensitive Claire Connolly and bounty hunter Liam Quinn have been helping their human and paranormal allies fight back against the ravaging invaders and save what’s left of New Orleans.

But a new enemy has arisen, more powerful than any they’ve seen before, and even Devil’s Isle cannot hold her. . .

When Claire learns of a new magical weapon–one built by paranormals themselves -she knows it could turn the tide of war. But to reach it, she and Liam will have to cross into the Beyond itself. In a world full of hostile magic and dangerous foes, she’ll have to channel the powers she once kept hidden in order to survive. New Orleans hangs in the balance, and the storm is growing closer . . .

urban magical friends well written

As the final book of the Devil’s Isle series The Beyond by Chloe Neill wrapped up threads, took us into the veil and left me saddened to say goodbye.

Since this is the last book and I know many of you like to dive in once a series is complete and I will keep things vague.

Claire Connolly, a sensitive and her boyfriend, hunter Liam Quinn join forces with their human and paranormal allies to stop a new threat. A storm is coming to New Orleans ….

This was an exciting, non-stop installment as we see folks settling into this new version of New Orleans. Sensitives are learning to control their magic. Humans and paranormal are living side by side. A new paranormal threat emerges, and it is seeking revenge. When Claire and the others discover a weapon made in the veil, they seek a missing piece. This object may be the only thing that can save them.

Time spent inside the Veil was fascinating and beautifully described. The way it interacted with Claire and Liam’s abilities was intense. I am quite positive I would not want to live in their world. It left me imagining a government such as theirs. *shivers*

We see growth from Claire and movement in her relationship with Liam. While Neill kept the romance on the side, she gave us the closure we needed and some tender moments.

The overall series ARC wrapped up, and I liked how everything unfolded. Nothing felt forced and all the pieces snapped nicely into place.

I am saddened to say goodbye to Claire, New Orleans, and her friends both human and paranormal but I am looking forward to more from this author.

Another series that sounds great. I have to do a lot of reading on my time off. I am excited to see what this amazing world is like since you want to live in it! Great review!

It sounds like this was a really good finale to the series and that even though it was bittersweet as it was hard to say goodbye, it did not disappoint. You said it right — I am definitely going to dive into this series now that it is complete!

It’s always a sad time for me when I say goodbye to a beloved series! I’m glad all of the plot arcs wrapped up nicely and that you enjoyed this final story!

I love when a series wraps up this neatly. Great review Kimba.

Great review! I just finished listening to the book yesterday. I didn’t know it was going to be the last book, but about 3/4 done, I thought it may be. (and then verified on the author’s website). I liked how this all wrapped up and the story was a good one.

I have really enjoyed this series even though it felt a bit plodding at a few small points. It is definitely a good ending to the series with things concluded for now. This was an audio series for me and I really enjoyed it in that format.

I didn’t realize this one was the finale, of course it makes sense as it felt like things were tied off. I wonder what she will do next?

I agree I love that things with Liam and Claire finally came to, I don’t want to say conclusion but that they finally got their acts together and came together as a couple. I did love the growth from both of them and all the characters really. This was a fun series for sure and I’m glad I read it.
