Nevermore...
Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI's Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe's great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life.
The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there's also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin's future as a couple might never begin...
WICKED DEEDS, by Heather Graham, continues historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce’s story as they head to Virgina. With some vacation time and a few weeks before Vickie enters Quantico, they stop in Baltimore to sightsee, but things get complicated.
Murder, the ghost of Edgar Allen Poe and a cast of suspects kept them hopping. Graham delivered a page-turning mystery with plenty of historical detail and speculation.
This is the twenty-third book in the Krewe of Hunter series. The Krewe of Hunters is a special branch of the FBI that solve unusual crimes and each hunter has a paranormal gift. Don’t let the series number scare you. Books within the series take place in different parts of the United States and feature different units of the Krewe. To read Vickie and Griffin’s story begin with DYING BREATHE.
Vickie and Griffin stay at a historic Inn where Vickie experiences a bizarre dream involving Poe. Griffin gets a call from Jackson asking him to check out circumstances surround a popular author when he is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant. I absolutely loved this Poe-inspired tale. Fans of Poe will appreciate the talk of his tales, life and the circumstances surrounding his death. While one does not have to be a Poe enthusiasts to appreciate this murder mystery, it does enhance the suspense and provided a captivating tale.
When another author is found dead in the same restaurant the Krewe of Hunters is officially asked to assist. Both murders are creepy and I enjoyed watching Vickie, Griffin and Poe piece together clues. The cast of suspects and folks tied to the restaurant provided amusement, cast doubt and kept me guessing. Graham linked Poe’s own death to the present murders and made it all feel possible.
Vickie really shines in WICKED DEEDS, using her historical knowledge and newly acquired knowledge to slowly piece things together and make educated decisions. She really begins to embrace her gift and feels confident in her future.
This is paranormal romantic suspense, but since this couple is already established the romance is served as a side. I appreciated seeing them work together and getting the chance to see Vickie come into her own. I loved that Graham provided a wrap up for them.
WICKED DEEDS held my attention from the very first page and I enjoyed this couple immensely but look forward to meeting the next couple.

I sometimes wish that authors would create new spinoff series when they start a new story arc like it sounds like Graham did hear. You could still have a series order for the entire world, but not scare people off with a book 23. Great review.

One day! I swear I will! I really need to read this one. Poe? Oh yea… so there. Looks like I’m going to have to see if the library has Dying Breathe. Yep, more to the wishlist. 🙂

Did Poe hint with poems or cryptic signs like … Lo, look back or you’ll join me?
