Bellman & Black was my first foray into the mind and writing of Diane Setterfield. I have heard countless recommendations and praise regarding her earlier work, The Thirteenth Tale and decided to take a chance. The writing is beautiful, dark and unsettling at times. Mini review: atmospheric, dark, clever, and unsettling.
Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron is a retelling of the classic Frankenstein featuring Frankenstein and the Bride’s son Frank. Skovron introduces a mix of genres in this paranormal romance, from cyberpunk to fantasy. At its heart, it is a coming of age story, with life lessons and first experiences. Mini review: quirky, intriguing and for the young at heart.
Last year I read The Hallowed Ones and loved the tale Laura Bickle gave us. It was one of my favorite reads, and I was on pins and needles to begin The Outside. Bickle continued Katie’s journey and kept me on the edge of my seat, as we faced danger, death and a freaky solution in this dystopian world. A Warm Place to Call Home by Michael Siemsen is a glimpse into the life of Frederick. Frederick is a demon who came into existence in the eighties. Told in first person, he shares with us his experiences as he possesses a man name Joseph Cling in his search for love. Unique, shocking and wonderfully paced I could not but this odd little tale down and consumed it in a single evening.
