Mind Sweeper is the first in the paranormal urban fantasy series Mind Sweeper. I love any genre of story that features an investigative team or special ops. Humans do not know about the supernaturals living among them except for a few select in police departments and the government. Kyle and her team are called in when the supernatural are involved in a death, crime, etc.

A sword-wielding angel and a demon walk into a busy Cleveland bar during happy hour, and a vampire ends up decapitated. By the time Kyle and her team arrive, the demon and angel are gone, but so is the head of the vampire.

I settled into the narration performed by Traci Odem as we learned about the team and investigated our first case. Odem is a seasoned narrator and one I have enjoyed previously. I loved the unique voices she provided and how she captured the humor, spunk and comradery of the team.

Kyle is a kickass human with the ability to alter minds. She alters the memories of the humans and supernatural who witnessed the brawl. Jean-Luc is a vampire, and Misha is a Russian demon, who is good with tech. The three of them have worked as a team for over ten years.

This case is odd, and the team is shocked when they are informed they will get a new team member. Joe Dalton works for the local police department. Sure he is handsome, but Kyle isn’t happy to be saddled with a know-it-all human. I loved seeing their partnership develop, even as Kyle tried to shock him into quitting. There is a sizzling chemistry between them, and watching them fight it was fun.

The case was a great introduction to the world and characters. Several side threads seemed to stray from the plot, but hang on because it all weaves together and hints at things to come. I loved how Jones weaved humor, romance, mystery and friendship into the tale and look forward to listening to the next book in the series.
