A new book of unique reversible poems based on Greek myths from the creator of Mirror Mirror What happens when you hold up a mirror to poems about Greek myths? You get a brand-new perspective on the classics! And that is just what happens in Echo Echo, the newest collection of reverso poems from Marilyn Singer. Read one way, each poem tells the story of a familiar myth; but when read in reverse, the poems reveal a new point of view! Readers will delight in uncovering the dual points of view in well-known legends, including the stories of Pandora’s box, King Midas and his golden touch, Perseus and Medusa, Pygmalion, Icarus and Daedalus, Demeter and Persephone, and Echo and Narcissus. These cunning verses combine with beautiful illustrations to create a collection of fourteen reverso poems to treasure
Lovers of Greek Mythology will enjoy sharing the poems and vivid illustrations within Echo Echo with young readers. I love greek mythology and this book has some of the most popular stories. Delivered in poem from this third collection of reverso poems brings the classic stories to life. This is so clever. On the poem page the author tells a poem which shares a well-known story, but if you read the story in reverse from bottom to top it shares a whole new point of view. Don’t worry about trying to read the text from top to bottom and then bottom to top, the author splits the page in two sharing the same tale from top to bottom and then bottom to top. Here is an example for Pandora and the Box:
The book is an oversized hardcover edition with protective jacket. Echo Echo is 32 pages in length and has 14 stories As you open the book one side has a vivid image of the story and the opposite page the poems. One forward and one reverse. While this was too advanced for Sophia, it didn’t stop her from enjoying the photos and listening to Nonna’s brief version of each story. I love that this is a book that will grow with her, offer lessons and share the stories that fascinate us all.
