It’s the summer of 1976 when Alice and Tom set out across Canadian highways in their new RV. It’s a trip planned to help them heal from a personal tragedy, and it’s all about to go terribly wrong when they help a young couple hitchhiking in The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens. You’ll want to add this thriller to your fall reading list.

The open road beckons.
A chance for them to reconnect.
Then they make a fatal mistake. It’s the summer of 1976 and Alice and Tom set out on the remote Canadian highways in their new RV, hoping to heal their broken hearts after a devastating tragedy.
They’ve planned the trip perfectly, taken care of every detail. Then they meet two young hitchhikers down on their luck and offer them a ride. But Simon and Jenny aren’t what they seem. They’ve left a trail of blood, destruction, and madness behind them.
Now Alice and Tom are trapped, prisoners in a deadly game, with nowhere to turn. As the tension builds, the lines blur, and the question becomes, In whose heart does evil truly lie? What secrets are Jenny and Simon hiding? And who will live another day?
A chilling, twist-laden ride to the final page, THE HITCHHIKERS is that rare novel that will break your heart as well as hold you in suspense. The author of the classic thrillers STILL MISSING and THOSE GIRLS has delivered her next breathtaking novel.
Nothing says fall like a suspenseful thriller. Could there be a better way to spend it than in an RV traveling scenic highways with a couple of knife-wielding killers? I could not put The Hitchhikers down as Alice tries to keep herself and Tom alive.
We meet Alice and Tom as they are entering a campsite. On the way in, they pass a young couple walking hand in hand with backpacks. Alice and Tom are recovering from a loss that has left their marriage strained. The brand new RV was Tom’s idea, and he is hoping the two of them reconnect. When the young woman asks Alice for a band-aid, she invites her to her campsite. Alice and Tom ask the young couple to join them for dinner. Ocean & Blue (Jenny & Simon) tell them they are hitchhiking, and Tom and Alice offer to drive them to the next town the following morning. What starts off as compassion quickly escalates to fear when Alice discovers the young couple is wanted for murder.
Wowza. Stevens had me hooked with this perfectly paced thriller that quickly turns violent as Alice and Tom become hostages. The story is told from the point of view of Alice and Ocean (Jenny). Alice shares the present with a few glimpses into the life she and Tom share. Ocean shares the past and what led up to murders. Twisted and suspenseful, I could not set this down.
If you are looking for a gritty, addictive thriller this fall with some unexpected twists set in the 70s with the open highway out your window, The Hitchhiker is for you. I will look for more works by Chevy Stevens.

Chevy Stevens is in my top three favorite authors, the others are TJ Newman and Fredrick Backman.
Mary Kirkland
That sounds different but pretty good.

This sounds crazy suspenseful. I’ve read this author before but this one has a bit of a horror vibe to me.

I am intrigued by this one. It’s a pity it is not in Kindle Unlimited.
