Nonna’s Corner is a special feature where I share books I’ve reviewed with my grandchildren, affectionately referred to as the “Royals” here at Caffeinated. We hope you enjoy them and find books to share with your little ones.

Gabby is a spunky puppy, who likes to find things. Your children will love following along, as Gabby discovers balls, socks, sticks, and even a toothbrush. One day, while she's out exploring, Gabby sees something move. The "smallish something" turns out to be Katie, a clever and inspiring caterpillar.

Your kids will share in the delight as Gabby and Katie meet, and will understand why they become "the best of friends". This unlikely friendship between a puppy and caterpillar is formed through playing, resting, and reading.

Gabby reminds us that true friends will accept you for who you are, and also who you're becoming, by accepting Katie as she goes from being a caterpillar to a butterfly.

Gabby Makes a Friend by Chris Elle Dove share the friendship between Gabby, a golden retriever and a caterpillar named Katie. Illustrated by Sofie Schollaert the Royals loved the friendship they formed.

We meet Gabby, who likes to find things and discover what some of those objects are. One day she finds Katie, the caterpillar, and they become the best of friends. The Royals loved their interactions and like Gabby become concerned when Katie goes missing.

Now Sophia, who is almost six could tell from the images what happened to Katie and we stopped reading while she shared her hypothesis. Clayton who just turned four this month was concerned like Gabby and picked up on the pups’ emotions.

Of course, the reunion and transformation delighted both children. As soon as we finished, they wanted to read it again.

Sofie Schollaert’s illustrations were colorful and played perfectly to the story.

I loved the message of change, acceptance, and friendship. Perfect for a holiday gift, the classroom, or your child’s bookshelf.
